Defects are demerits in QLD. I know that much.

Defects in Victoria have nothing to do with your licence.

Only thing that can occur is that your registration is suspended if the defect isn't cleared.

iv'e got a mate with a vl commodore had pod filter and turbo exhaust got defected and lost 4 points of his license because the defects was class as perfomance upgrades without engineer certs and they said if anything had happened while he was driving and someone got hurt he was putting people and his passengers at risk of injury. HOWS THAT WORK
