Hey guys.
I've just turned 16 and have started looking at cars. I'm a Holden boy through and through and like every other boy my age want to buy a commodore. I've been looking through different websites and I would like to buy a VT. I'm not sure of the current price of a stock version so any information there would be very helpful. I'm willing to pay in the range of probably up to $8000.00 or there abouts and a couple of thousand on some mods.
That comes to my next point, modifcations. To be honest I don't know much about cars, so once again any help would be gratefully appreciated. I would like purchase the following modifications.
Bodykit - Front and Rear Bumper, Sideskirts and Spoiler.
Interior - Seats, Steering Wheel and Tachometer.
Stereo System - CD/MP3 Player, Speakers, Amps and Subs.
Engine Mods - Ideas would be gratefully appreciated as when it comes to
engines, I haven't got a clue.
Anyway, all ideas and help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks,
Anders.

First i guess i should say that within a few $$$ a commodore wont be a fast car. But im not saying dont mod it. Im not saying that at all. Iv spent $$$ on mine, its not fast, but im happy.
As for the engine mods, have a look at the SA laws for P platers, that will narrow the field a little.
Also have a think about what you would like your car to look like and how you want to be seen. Do you want the car to be dumped on its rubbers with 20" rims and a body kit designed for a commodore 6 years newer? or would you rather a fresh spray and a SS kit? it all depends on how you are. Each to their own.
Also fitting a new Steering wheel to a VT is hard. Im not 100& but i think they came with a standard drivers air bag. This means that a steering wheel needs to have an air bag. If its an after market airbag wheel then ill stick my head out and say it probably needs an engineers inspection to stop your insurance being void, or worst case your air bag not going off and you dying.
Also the VT came standard with a tacho in the dash, so a monster tacho or any after market one wont be needed and thats not a bad thing, personally they dont look good on commodores.
Stereo. well the world is your oyster.
Engine mods come down to what you can have and what you can afford.
Going from a cat back exhaust to a stroked and blown fuel chewer.
have fun mate

Spend as much time reading on this (and other) forums as you posibly can. Nearly every question you could ever come up with has been answered many times before. The more you read the better your overall general knowledge will be and you will find the right choices are quite easy to make.

Seeing as your a P plater and living in SA you are extremely limited with the mods you can do. You are not allowed to perform any mods that increase the power, exhaust, turbo, etc
As for exterior mods, the main prob is rim size as SA still has the no larger then 2" greater then factory rule.
To be honest, buy a nice cruiser, something like an 'S' and do some simple discreet mods.
Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
take your tie with your car.
start buy looking at all the private sale cars and cars ou c driving round till your certain you want a VT or wateva model you decide on.
then buy it and drive it for a while and take your time deciding exactly wat you would like to do with it
these things take time if you want it done right first time and not have to fork out more cash to have it redone cos you change your mind or it didnt come out how you wanted it.
trut me i lernt from experience spendin thousands on a car and deciding that it was alll wrong for me and changing it
best advide would be listen to every1 whu offfers advice and tke ya time
and forget about the tacho idea......

If you want something thats mildly quick, stay away from the VT lol unless you get an LS1 but i doubt that will happen, especially in that price range.
To be honest for a first car, just buy something reasonably cheap, half decent on fuel, and something thats not gonna be the end of the world when you scratch/dent it, cause its bound to happen on a first car.
Then save your penny's for a second awesome car, (with a V8) for when your off your p's
Personally I would just buy a cheapo car that'll last a year or two. Use that time to save for a VY S. Much nicer and a lot are reasonably cheap.
But if you do want to buy a commo straight away.
Stay with a factory body kit. (same model not a VZ to suit one)
There are some leather covers for your seats which are becoming more popular. (EBAY LEATHER SEAT COVER)
Wouldn't bother with wheel or tacho
A nice pioneer or alpine system should hook you up for audio/visual. Talk to your local shop and the guy will most likely give you the best advice for what you want/can afford.
Engine mods may be difficult but because it's a V6, don't go overboard. Save for an 8. A 2.5" Catback exhaust should be nice.
I am also 16 and this forum has taught me so much about cars and that most of your modding ideas are just typical for our age. Spend a month or two on the forum and you will be less inclined to do those typical P plater mods.
A Commodore is a passion. Anything else is just a car
haha sucks 2 be a P plater now S.A sux bad aswel id ditch tacho dont worry about interior if u dont have the rest of the car to show ir off body kit will be ok only if its not a clubbykit lol HBD kit would be tops get some 17" granges (WH) or vt ss will look good on the VT even internationals hope that helps

MY VY SV8 HBD http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...y-sv8-hbd.html
when did the mod rule come into effect in sa??
never even heard about it ( not that it effects me anyway )
We got rep back, yaaay!
My kids did the learners thing in the V8 sedan.
As for modding up a VT, I'd drive it for a while first to see what has been hidden from you in the sale process. It may be nothing or a tranny on the blink costing maybe $1,000 to fix.
Then there is the insurance thing (cost for 16 year old aint cheap).
Then some good rubber. Saved my kids a few times already. Dont skimp on tyres.
