Default suicide boot conversion on vs.

Just like to know if anyone has had any problems with the boot leaking after the suicide style boot conversion (the one where the boot flips up then down),i see its very simple to do,but before i do it im just curious if they leak when they`re closed, and if they move when driving due to the air getting underneath it,and are they still simple to close or do i need to close the back of the boot first then where the lock is?.

i think your best bet would be to chuck the hinges on it but also leave a lock pin so that you can keep it as a normal boot if you like.

i just think it would be the most practical. as i wouldn't want to scratch my bootlid getting **** in the boot.

I'd guess that the water in boot would be from the 3 main entry points for water(tail lights, rear qtr window & filler cap seal).

For the "new" hidge setup - you'd have to botch it up for it to leak.

yea mate, i had a mate do mine and it hasn't leaked as it doesn't affect the main seals.
there's 2 ways of doing it, either by putting door hinges on it, or making brackets. the hinges i've heard require removal of the boot lid, and this CAN affect the sealing when closed (some one please correct me if i'm wrong), but the brackets dnt require removal of the lid, thus seals will operate as normal.
just had a downpour of rain, and the only reason i had water in the boot was due to the lights and the qtr window.
pm if ya want more details mate

check ur PM if ya haven't already bud, but here's the link to how it can be done. no offense to any1 on here who has taken a different approach, i just prefer the way this one is carried out to other methods. i also allow harvma20 to take credit for this, as it is his write up lol

    Flip boot or Suicide boot?

Suicide boot is what McBeth has on his Magna - opens with the hinge on the bottom.

lol Stealthy, i have never known any1 to do a suicide boot like McBeth's Magna, thats y wen evry1 says suicide boot, i think flip boot... as long as we all know what we talking bout i spose
DVSV8, i didn't make my kit, my mate made it and put it all together, but if u follow the link in my post above, it lists what you need to get it done. most of it is just offcuts of steel u mite have lying around the house. it is more of DIY job, as only specialty car places could prob do it, or would bother... its not overly hard, the worst part is prob assembling it all before u put it on the car.
again, i can provide extra photos over the weekend if requested. mine isn't painted like Harvma20's and it is slightly easier to see what is what imo.
PM me with any other queries guys, or post em up and i'l try and help... just gotta add a subscription to this thread now lol

hey dude when i did mine i used 50mm snap pins from supercheap in order to lock the lid to the boot arms, they are fairly strong and can not come out, i also put some arms/hinges on to hold the boot on the horizontal. Mines a lil messy and needs painting but you get the idea

That is an excellent setup mate, the "R" clips are a quick and easy fix (you could also use clevis pins) and i like the idea of the levelling straps. A bit of a tidy up and a paint and it will look smicko!

    Well done...............Pete!
