Default No engine Numbergoing to be a problem?

So I building an engine for a mate. Got a brand new block and heads Supposably left over Racing Stock. It a V6 block. I started doing some work on it tonight mainly checking a few things like clearances. And i thought hmm wonder what the engine number is. So i look and there isnt one all there is a date stamped 06/12/01 (whish i ussume is when it was cast) where the engine number should be.
What do people think is it going to be a major issue? The car is registered but i know you should imform vicroads. But its not like its going to be checked unless it needed roadworthied, re registered or he was selling it.

If worst comes to worst i think work might be able to stamp it for me as i know we're allowed to issue new numbers (under our own system and they have to be logged)

No green Vn its a brand new block no way its been filed as the whole surface acroos the front has been machined the same level. You can tell it from when it was cast. Bought it from a reputable engine reconditioner who've been in business for over 25 years do have a receipt aswell

Sounds about right if its a new block - it only gets an engine number once it's built.

I have considered using the old number as the old motor is catus Of coarse that means i will have to destory the block or engine number.
