Should I do a..
1. CAM [$3000]
2. HSV Brake Upgrade [$3450] (NVU, Genuine Holden parts to suit Holden Commodore VR,VS,VT,VX,VY,VZ,Monaro,Statesman,Utes and HSV
3. HSV Brake Upgrade [$1650] (NVU, Genuine Holden parts to suit Holden Commodore VR,VS,VT,VX,VY,VZ,Monaro,Statesman,Utes and HSV)
4. 19" wheels for about $2,000 with tyres
Of those 2 brake kits, is it worth getting the more expensive for the extra $1800?
Thanks.

Yeah i have the stock VY SS 18's. Money is a factor but if there is a huge difference i will go for the better kit. I've only ever driven cars with stock brakes... i know my SS brakes are **** and I need to change them as they fade straight away. Will there be a big difference between the 2 kits?

no need no brakes like that unless u got some real power goin through the car... i would go for the cam package and the $1650 brake upgrade
cam it. u really only need massive brakes if ur gonna race the thing.
Well i am planning some track days and nothing is worse than failing brakes... would the $1650 brakes be okay? My rotors are warped now and rather than pay to change them, i may as well upgrade them to something decent that won't need upgrading later.

I'd go the cam, followed by brakes. Have you considered getting DBAs instead of a HSV setup?
I have SSZ brakes which i was going to put slotted RDA/DBA's on and police spec pads, but then decided to sell them for the cam (they are still for sale). Then today i noticed HSV brakes on ebay for more than what the SSZ's would have cost me with slotted rotors, but the HSV ones are a bit bigger.

What are peoples opinions on the D2 6 and 8 piston brake kits on ebay? HSV 2 and 4 piston kits better?

Also these brakes look quite good: PK1 COMMODORE VB TO VZ BIG BRAKES HSV 343 R8 SIZE PBR - eBay, Other Car Parts, Accessories, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 17-Sep-08 18:56:02 AEST)
Any opinions people? Worth going the more expensive HSV setup with 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears?

Why do epople always think you need power for good brakes?
After driving a few VT's and VX's whe looking for a project car I decided if i ever went back to a stock holden that brakes would be the first thing to change. They are so soft and crap feeling.
Adam, go the 350/332 route makes a massive difference. Im running 4 pot all around 343/330 and I love my brakes. As for cam being 3k. Who is doing it for 3k? By the time you do all the necessary upgrades to run the cam I cant see it being done for less than 5k.

Minux... Sizes of the rotors between the large hsv set and smaller hsv/ebay set don't vary too much, but do the extra pistons on the large hsv set make a big difference? I'm looking at an extra $1700 or so, worth it?
Enhanced Automotive does cams for 3k. Cam & Head for about 5k though.

yeh go the cam package, the brakes are good, but can always get dba slotted rotors and bendix general c/t's, this is what i have on mine all round, no brake fade and stops well, with the stock calipers, can always get braided brake hose kits from repco to match, $400-$450 for all four rotters, and say bout $250-$300 for your pads should cover it with some change, then you can put the extra into a cam and a stally to match if enough, iv never had a problem with these, yes mine is a stocker, but it stops perfect.
oh yeh and these dba rotors are what i was told by holden a lot of hsv customers end up getting to replace there factory rotors, as apparently the factory hsv discs are bout $500 each thats what i was quoted, so i got the dba's.
think his more talking about valve springs, pushrods, timing chains, gaskets, rod and head bolts, u/d balancer, mayb abita porting, mayb abita this and abita that.
stuff thats gonna go in with the head and cam or just cam.
adds up in the end, and if your keeping the car for years to come, go all out.
yeh if you have a look in enhanced sponser forum on here, there's a cam package post, in that it tells you whats included, its a bit more than just the cam and labour. i got a quote for a cam when i had my vr v6 and a place wanted $1,000 labour cause they had to strip the motor down to do it.
Well guys i spoke with the guy today that I sold the SSZ brakes too. He told me it was for his daughters car. He then mentioned he had the 3.5K HSV AP Racing brake setup. He said they are absolutely awesome and has pretty much convinced me to go the expensive brakes lol. So i think i might do the cam then go for the expensive HSV brakes.

Go the brakes. They may seem "boring" and pointless, but believe me, there is no substitute for having good brakes.
