Depends how old you are, are you effected by the new laws? What do you want from the car? Do you want just a run about or do you want some decent power?
I'm 17 living in W.A n theres no laws well atm im after luxury and looks more or less how much are the older statos going for

Go the VT, Airbags, ABS, safer car all around.

thing is if i get a vt i cant have a fully sick steering wheel coz of the whole law thing bout changing air bagged steering wheels then again a vt feels a hell of alot better

The VQ statesmans are nice, you should be able to pick up a good condition one for under say 4 grand which will give you a couple of grand to do either repairs, pay for insurance and perhaps do some light mods.
Theyve got nice comfy seats, as well as power windows and climate control and theyre also a V8 so youve got that power behind it.
Heres a couple of examples:
Morton's white VQ Statesman

In lets say 6 months to a years time, when you have the money ready to go shopping, you might even be able to find a nice VS Statesman for around 6 grand... thats a big maybe though as they are still going for around 8/9.
i do like the vts except the rear garnish but thats easy fixed im thinking bout checking out pickles to get a cheapy and fix it up coz i know panel beaters and mechanicsliving at home allows me to save max cash
having a gf makes me go into the negative numbers

Well they are both boats... VQs arent that bad, mind you i dont like statos and im not a fan of the square arched commodores.
i love the square arches thing is im not fond of the buick that came in the 6's but u can still do stuff with them whilst i hear its a bit harder to get power out of a ecotec is this true? meh once im off the P's its ls1 time

Go for a really good nick VR/VS Calais v6.. Nothing worse than buying something thats dirt cheap and forking out hundreds and hundreds fixing it, when that could have gone to doing up a nice well looked after car..
Take it from my personal experience.. my VK - lemon, my VR - reliable.
VP SS Manual FTW. Light and heaps of potential
Reaper
Go for a VT mate heaps nicer than earlier commodores... nicer interior and exterior. I'm not really a big fan of the pre VT commodores but if you have to get one get a VS.

go the VT, as for the steering wheel thing; you can fit a VY/VZ leather wheel to the vt without any problems. New clock spring and airbag thats all
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
