    Question Vic rego Question

    (VIC)
If I pay rego renewal on a car that was given to me recently, when I can afford insurance and the RWC to transfer it to my name, will I forfeit the any of the rego I paid in her name?

The pricks at work didn't pay me and I'm waiting on the fat lump sum to fund my RWC. The plan is to let it sit there for 2 weeks until I'm paid, but the rego expires just before I am paid, so I have to spend my current $500 on the renewal and then do the transfer with RWC...
    Get me ?

im about 90% sure, that you have 28days AFTER the rego is expired to pay it, and if you dont pay it, you will then have to get full roadworthy which will cost X ammount and then pay for your rego which is $549.80
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.

3 months from the date of expiry, however, it will expire as per the normal original date, you wont gain 2 months

To the oP, once you get the RWC and transfer it, the rego will continue on.

He wont get the grace period if he is transferring it though.
The car isnt in his name, he wants to pay it now, transfer it later to save the hassle of new rego, which is a smart idea if he can do that.
If it runs out, he will have to go through new rego, beause, I dont think the grace period is valid during a transfer, correct me if im wrong?

Yeah I plan to have the renewal paid so I don't have to pay all the 're-onroad-registration' costs associated with buying a car without plates...

It's just so I can pay the stamp duty, transfer fees and RWC costs all shortly after I pay the renewal... because I don't have the funds at the date of rego expiry to have the name changed over from her name to mine.

I shall pay rego and then have it RWC'd and even though I got the car for free, I'll fill the form out as "sold with Rego/RWC" as optioned in the transfer form.

I hope I'm not confusing anyone and cheers for the replies so far...

In that case, you are right, pay it in her name, when the roady is done just transfer it and the reg continues on.

correct there^^ I did this with my wagon when i got it, i payed the rego and had 28 days to produce rwc, if after 28 days the car needed to go over the pits for full inspection (cringe)

tell em you paid 250 for the car if u say it was a gift they charge market value on tranfers/stamp duty
