Hey guys, I have a dilemma in choosing another car. I know, I know, it's a which car thread. I have used search but nothing comparing these two cars.
My Subaru is now on the market, and hopefully should be sold soon. My question is I am tossing up between the VY II S Supercharged 2003ish model or the 2005/5 ish VZ SV6 Alloytech commodore sedans. Both appear around the same $$ (14k - 20k).
I have looked through all the different classifieds, but because I have never owned a commodore, I don't know which is the better car.
I like the SV6 thinking it's the alloytech "better" engine, but not to much room to move with mods like exhaust etc.
The Supercharged VY uses a little more fuel, a bit slower stock, but with a few mods like exhaust and a touch more boost should be quicker than the SV6.
Am I wrong in all my thinking?
If anyone has some pros and cons of both cars I would be appreciative of your knowledge. I just want to make the right decision.
PS: I love the whine of the supercharger![]()
the VY will be quicker than the vz mate and use less fuel in stock form
The vy with some cheapish mods done to it and it will crap on an sv6
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
for 15-20k mark get a VY SV8, crap on both and with a tune be just as good on fuel.
i'd agree with dvsv8 and i own an sv6. The vy will go through more fuel, i get 9.5litre/100km and there should be no diff with rpicing on the exhaust between the vy and the vz. there aren't alot of mods for the alloytec but to a certain degree they've only just started to come out of the warranty cycle where the ecotecs have been out for a while. its up to you, me personally i think the vz is a better car all round.
Chev badges are an instant fail
There is no way the vy s/c will use less fuel than an vz sv6. They used as much fuel as a gen3. I had an sv6 and other than the engine, it has a far superior gearbox choices, braking and traction control systems than a vy. Go for an sv8 if you want to go fast, otherwise get a vz sv6, its a better overall car.
