    Default Which commodore to buy???

ok so im looking to buy a new car but i cant decide what i want so im looking for a bit of advice on certain models.

Currently i have a VS executive and i want something a bit newer with less K's and some options like cruise control and power windows.

i have a budget of about $12,000 from what i can see that will get me any base model up to a 2005 VZ acclaim.

Things i cant decide on are, should i get maybe a VT or VX calais for say 8-9k or is it worth going that extra bit to get a VZ acclaim because its newer, better resale value, lower K's and better engine.

Other questions i have are, is the alloytech that much better than an ecotec? i know it has better mileage and more power but is it worth paying an extra 3-4k for a VZ over a VY just for an alloytech motor?

    Any advice appreciated.

If I were looking for a cheapie run-around car right now I'd look at either a VY or VXII (depending on which shape you prefer). There are thousands of them on the market and as cheap as chips. The more you spend on a car now, the more you are going to loose down the track when you sell it or crush it. There is nothing wrong with the Ecotech or the Alloytech but I wouldn't pay extra for either.

If you want somthing thats a bit better for resale dont go a VZ exec, look at the prices of them now, getting cheap yeah? its not very old either are they? Think how much they will drop in a few yrs. Get somthing a bit older and with a name or somthing special, like a super 6 calais or a calais with under 100,000kms.

i would if i could but unfortunatly im a P plater

As for resale value i dont think id end up buying an executive anyway, id probably go for an acclaim or a berlina, they seem to still hold some value as they have electric options and such.

ideally id like to pickup a VZ acclaim with under 100,000k's on the clock, keep it for 3-4 years and trade it in on a VE when they drop a bit.

i guess the main reason i want a VZ is for the alloytec motor, considering it has 25 odd more KW than VT VX VY its the easiest way for me to get a bit more power.

How long do you have left on your P's, would it be better to wait that little bit longer and get the car you really want.

I suggest you go and drive a VZ first. The alloytec is not impressive.

i got a year and a half left on my P's, so not realy worth waiting.

i was going to work my 6 but to do the work i wanna do to my car including body work, engine and etc im looking at 5-7k and thats money ill never get back.

im driving alot more K's now days so id like a comfy drive and my VS is lacking in that area.

ive driven a VZ once but it was a company car and i didnt realy get up it, but i did notice that i dont like the accelerator, it just seems to be unresponsive.

ive done some more research and seen i can get a nice VY berlina for the price of a VZ acclaim, so i might look at something like that.

im gonna go do some test drives on the weekend and see how i go from there, ive decided id like a VY atleast cause i lobe the triangle shaped tail lights.

after driving an alloytec for a while there is no way id go back to a ecotec, it takes a long time to get used to the electric throttle but when you do, you can see how alloytecs are better than ecotecs,

im not a fan of fords, i prefer the sound of a V6

i got nothing against fords, my mate has an EL XR6 and thats a realy nice car with plenty of balls but it just doesnt do it for me.

we have an 07 model fairmont ghia at work which i drive alot and its far from impressive, its got a nice comfy interior but the lack of throttle response and **** poor power for an 07 model is just not convincing.

main reason i want a commodore is cause im the kind of person that stick to what they know, ive never had a problem with a commodore that i couldnt fix myself. ive grown up around commodores and i think i know them pretty well so im pretty set on sticking with a holden.

This has got to be the hardest decision i have ever made....

i realy want a VZ for the alloytec but i also want an acclaim or preferably a berlina.

the other problem is going from my kitted and done up VS to a stock standard VY or VZ, allthough i did find a VY acclaim with clubby kit and mags but it has 175,000K's

im limited to what i can get cause i have to buy from dealership, silly secured loans....

well from the results of racing my mate in his VS ute with my VZ wagon the alloytec has alot more get up and go. Haven't had a problem with mine yet either (touch wood), the VZ are very nice cars, the interior is great and it's a very smooth ride. I'd go for the VZ acclaim.

if lack of throttle response is an issue run away from vz alloytecs

i took a 05 VZ executive for a test drive yesterday and i love it, i prefer the sound of the ecotec but the alloytec clearly has more up and go than my VS.

i still dont like the throttle response but im sure id get used to it eventually.

ive pretty much decided ill take this VZ executive for $9000, leave sme some money for rims and get it lowered.

Read next time, would have to be N/A as he is governed by P-Plate restrictions meaning no snails or superchargers or 8's.
