Default NSW Mobile thread repair services?

    Hey guys,

I was taking off my stock exhaust manifold of my N/A VL Calais to put on some extractors. After spending much time reading about the troubles eVeryone seemed to have of snapping exhaust manifold bolts, i gave it a shot. Used lots of WD40 and Rost Off Plus. All seemed to be going swimingly until, surprise, one snapped (it was already loose before i started anyway, and i had a leak)

I called Action thread repairs and was quoted $160 to come out and remove 1 stud!! I then asked him how much to change the rest of them, and was told $25.

    I think $160 is a bit steep...

Does anyone know any other mobile thread repairs or similar that are cheaper around the north shore area??? Please post!

hey mate. i snapped a flywheel bolt in my crank and got it out by using some easy out screw bits. i was lucky. but if its heavily rusted etc. you wont get it out with them.

all the best hope you got it sorted

Thx Haydz, i thought about going with the easy outs, but ive heard some BAD stories about them! Because its an exhaust stud, ive heard of ppl drilling too far into the stud and thru to the water jacket causing a permanent coolant leak...which means new head...ive also heard the easy outs are fairly easy to snap...with that in mind, the stud is a mild steel, so if i snap an easy out in it (which is a high tensile steel) it will be near impossible to drill it out!!! :S

I went with a pro, charged me $160 to remove it and all new set of studs. So im happy with that. I told him i was contemplating having a go at it myself and the said that if i had snapped an easy out in it, he would be charging me $340!!! so im glad i left it for him. Apparently the drill bit he would use for getting an easy out out is a tungsten bit worth $50-$60.

    Thanks again.
