    Default Trimmed P Plates

Just want to know a little about how people display their P Plates, i have mine trimmed down slightely on my car and a mate had trimmed down alot and he got busted by the rozzers. I have mine trimmed so when others in my family need my car they slide easily behind the license plate and cant be seen, but i dont want to have to constantly add and remove plates because its just easier having them screwed in. bear in mind its NSW and i cant have them in the window.

Should i be worried about getting nicked for it. (see pic for size, still very clear to see, rear is slightely bigger)

why bother? that looks stupid, not worth the potential fine/points/whatever you get stung with up there.

personally i just left mine as is, granted i was able to leave them in the windows though.

in that case, tomorrow im going to grab 50 p plates from the RTA just to annoy them for inconviencing me with stupid laws.

on the RTA site it says the law is:

Have P plates (red P on white background) displayed conspicuously at the front and rear exterior of the car when driving. The letter P on the plate must not be hidden. If towing a trailer, a P plate must be on the back of the trailer.

I've seen a car around here making a similar point - he had about 8 plates on the back window. As someone pointed out he could get down for altering his ability to safely see the road or something. (yeah i don't remember exactly and it could be far fetched!)

in S.A. there is a minimum size requirement and must be square, and are allowed to be displayed in the windows, but that doesn't help you thou,
would you get away with displaying them on the exterior of the front and rear windscreens?

I had mine trimmed down to fit with the rear numberplate, and never had an issue.
I did the rear one like this because i lost my license when a corner fell down on the see through ones.

Your not allowed to alter the plate in any way +

You have to display your P Plate fully, not obstructed +

You must have your P Plates on

    Or it's a ticket.

They look gay when they are trimmed anyways.

And with "stupid laws" comment. It's there for a reason to tell everyone on the road that there is a high posibility that you are a crap driver, inexperienced, and only just got your licence.

EVERYONES been there and done it, and you don't see them whinging.

They are stupid laws. QLDs P2 never had to display P plates, which is no different to when i got my fine.
Nearly every car in Sydney has their p plates like mine, behind the numberplate (obstrcuted) so obviously its allowed there.
And no, not everyone has been there done that. Most of the drivers on our roads got their license by driving the local cop around the block, and went straight onto their black license. Ad i bet your balls over half of those people would fail the current licensing system, thus making them unsafe drivers.

Must have had a couple of priors for that to happen? I think it's 3 points and a fine or something here.

Nah, he just wanted to fine me badly. As it was he was driving the opposite direction to me, turned around and followed me into a servo. After i came out he was already looking over my car (which was already on defect, but cleared to drive, which is probably what ****ed him off)

I learnt my lesson tho, the defect sticker always gets put on the roof now.

In SA when it happened to me (about 3 years ago) its a fine, and automatic disqulaification, for breaching your p conditions.

That's pretty rough. I was pulled over for mine (might have told you this before) and told to move them. I had them tucked just bhind the numberplate like yours because that is where the last cop told me to put them after he said the windows were too dark to see them. Lucky i didn't get a fine either time but it goes to show it is up to the individual sometimes as you how hard you are going to be shafted.

Our conditions just say it has to be clearly displayed at the front and rear of the car, doesn't matter where. And they are allowed inside the windows if you want.

the RTA says nothing about trimming them or it having to be a full plate.

Must be a red P on white background displayed conspicuously. I love it how they make laws so vague.

Youve been pulled over as part of operation "revenue raising"

My mate that got pulled over for having his p plates very trimmed down, (no white on them at all) he was telling the copper he was thinking of joining the force. the cop told him not to bother, he said " you wont get anywhere unless you got a p***y and tits". didnt get a fine though. cop just laughed at it

    I changed mine anyway:

    In Victoria as follows:

    Road Safety (Drivers) Regulations 1999

    Under definitions,

    P plate means—

    (a) in relation to the holder of a P1 probationary driver licence, a plate measuring approximately 150 millimetres by 150 millimetres that has a white letter "P" clearly marked on a red background;

    (b) in relation to the holder of a P2 probationary driver licence, a plate measuring approximately 150 millimetres by 150 millimetres that has a white letter "P" clearly marked on a green background;

Anything other than that is NOT a P plate.
