Hi Guys Im a new member but ive had holdens all my driving life. Ive just bought a VY s2 with the ecotec v6 engine and it uses a little oil , about 300ml over 1600ks or about 2 lts per 10,000 ks, is this normal Thanks
Hey mate i have a VS calais with ecotec and it also uses a little oil (pretty much the amount you said) car has 190 000 on the clock but is well maintained! how many klms has the VY got? does it blow smoke? even though my calais uses oil it does not blow smoke, so if yours does mate the rings are worn or valve stem seals might need redoing?

Hi Cx thanks for the reply. My Vy has only 66000 on it but theres no smoke at all and even the exhaust is clean so theres no real problem. i just wondered if other members v6's also use some oil. The handbook says some oil use is normal but doesn't give any quantities. So i'm still not sure if this is normal or not.
ecotecs use oil, how much is the luck of the draw, next service just use some quality 20w-50 or 15w-40

You could try a synthetic oil to see if it makes any difference but they are dearer, from what you have said i wouldnt worry about it at all,
Good to see you are checking things often and keeping on top of stuff though
So there are no oil leaks on the outside?, no oil being drawn by the pcv valve.....LOL, dont even know if ecotecs have them.
Yes, the handbook will say they will use some oil but doesnt quantify it.......smart of GM......it doesnt commit them to doing anything when the customer complains its uses a liter every 1000km.
Its not unusual for cars to not detectably use any oil between changes, if you can detect it, its not ideal......but not something you can do anything about cheaply. If it still goes okay, 2L of oil every 10000km is going to be a cheap long term solution.
