how many of you do this?
i have asked mates about this. that being said they have all chopped their springs which i know is illegal. so i dont trust much they say.
what harm is this going to do to my car.
and is it going to just give me a rougher ride.eg feeling all bumps.
I lowered my old pulsar with king springs and kyb excel-g shocks and the ride was a lot rougher than my friends honda accord which had only had kings springs (no shocks). Not sure if the shocks caused the differences, but i would assume a sports shock would give a rougher ride.
That being said, if you can afford it change your shocks, but i don't think there is any harm in using your original shocks. They may need replacing after some time though because they were on lowered springs and will wear out.

spring with out shocks?
well i have no idea how you plan on having your Front springs held in place, as the strut assembly and shock absorber are the same 1 unit.
and as for the rears, your springs will have a great chance of dislodging and falling on to the road.
thats just a stupid idea.. u need shocks if u wanna keep ur car on the road at all

my tafe teacher showed me a video of an old with just springs in it..
quite amusing actually, the car pretty much turned into a slinky (colourful plastic spring thingys little children play with)
couldn't help myself but laugh for a good couple of minutes so i'm pretty its not the best idea
i think he means changing the springs and leaving the old shocks.
Springs w/o shocks = suicide. I've seen a Toyota Starlet in Box Hill once without shocks in the back. It stopped at the lights, and kept bouncing 'till the lights went green again.![]()

yes it will
It will work.... thought the deciding factor of how WELL it will work is how low the springs are?
And yeah... wouldn't be taking any advice from your mates.
I get fair angry when people mention cutting springs.
ANYWAY!!
In most cases you won't NEED to get shorter shocks straight away... I had SSSL springs with stock shocks for ages.... didn't harm the car as such and the ride wasn't too bad...
Just that the shock will wear out quicker.... so one the shock you got wear out with the current springs... get shorter ones... no drama.
Good Luck mate!
Some shocks can bottom out if you use an extremely low riding spring. This is what causes them to die, they 'hammer' themselves out. Shorter stroke shocks are recommended in some cases, depends on the springs you choose to install. Valving of the shock is a big factor too.
I don't think the importance of shock absorbers is being realised here. Sure you might get away with it, but that's like bangin a hooker with no protection.
Shocks have a huge say in how your car handles, especially in emergency avoidance or braking. Do the whole lot or not at all imho
Thus why you need to replace the current ones when the wear out...
With shorter springs the shock will be working outside its standard boundaries but it will still work.
The ride with be a touch more bouncy over bumps that what it would be with shortened shocks but in all there won't be much loss in performance and handling.
Thats my opinion anyway...
As i said in MY experience I had stock shocks with SSSL springs and they did the job well. Though once i got big bore racing shocks in... i didn't look back! lol
