    Default Axle Stand Locations

Does anyone know where the axle stand locations on the VT,VX,VY are ?? I know the jacking points, and only even jack up one side and put a stand on the frame just before the sump, but i have been told not to only jack one corner of the car up. Should i just use a trolley jack or boot jack and jack up from front cross member just behind the front bumper bar and place the axle/jack stands behind the front wheel jacking locations with cut-outs ??? Thanks......

that cross memebr just behind your bar is your rad support,
dont jack on that, it will crumple and damage your radiator or condensor

use the cross member behind the sump, should be 3-4 inchies wide, its called the k frame
as for stands behind each wheel there is a square area that is made of a reenforced metal plate, square ish about 4 inches 4 inches.
dont place them under your seal flanges or on the box rail looking area, they are weak and crumble with the cars weight

Thanks for that mate, need a decent trolley jack to get it under that k frame. So these areas should be on the VX yeah ? What about at the rear ? I nkow i shouldn't jack it under the sump. I was told to jack it up at the cutouts under the back door, and place the stands under the circular pads i think where the rear axle goes, is this correct ? I really appreciate it.....

At the back, jack the car up by the diff. Use the diff cover plate flange (the point of greatest diameter), where the jack head can't slip off. Then for IRS, shove the axle stands under the circular plate thingo on the IRS cradle mount point. I think that's what it is

where do axle stands go on a VP Solid axle, looking from the rear of the car you can put an axle stand under the left side but not on the right because of where the panhard rod mounts to the diff

Thanks Morton, yes those are the circular sections i was talking about. For the front i didnt mean the area directly behind the bumper but the member where the front radius rod bushes connect onto. So if i have a look under my car, behind the front wheel, i should find a plate or area to place the stands ? All the manuals give a sketch, but handbook, or workbooks never show properly. I only knew about the circular area near rear wheels cause i seen my mechanic put it there, plus in the Haynes manual is shows them there for underside photo. But for front it doesn't show, which is where most work is done, including for Trans filter changes. I need to be able to move my wheels side to side as i do my link kits, brakes and rotors, and bleed my power steering as i flush it and replace the hoses. Front Castor rod bushes i can do with car on ground.

can actually put them on the axle on a solid rear,
but i tend to jack off a cross member and put stands on a mounting point for a cross or cradle, with rears you can use the lower control arm mounts
always leave the jack under just touching where you jacked as extra safty

the plate should be thick, proberly about 3 mm thick
and it tends to recease towards the floor of the car, ie upwards

And for safety, chuck a couple of rims under the sills of the car. I always do, just in case something gives way. I only have one jack, so I can't afford to leave it under the jacking point 'just in case'. It's always somewhere else, lifting a control arm or supporting a sump.

If you're uncertain about jack-stand points, having a rim under each side can be the difference between a serious injury, and death.

Yes Morton this is why i am asking before i get underneath it hehe. Yeah i have one of those stanford sets, i will get one more to make 3 as i may need it somewhere. I havent got spare rims at the moment, i will need to rely on the stands hehe. I shouldnt be spending too much time under, only when doing tranny filter. But yeah, when doing discs, imagine sitting there with a arm or leg under, and now the car gives way at the front without any wheels on it, car gonna land on you before it hits the ground...

Thanks alot Morton and VL Berlina. I will be finding my points now.

I am starting to get embarrassed now, i had a look under, and there is a plate or square area that is on a railing laying horizontally. I cannot see a plate running vertically.......grrrr I must not be looking properly, is it right behind the wheel, or near the jack cut outs ?

    nah the plate is horzontal
    not vertical
sounds like your looking at it

if you tap it with your knuckle you can tell its a thick piece

Thanks mate it seems out of place, but its situated on a thick railing, that runs on both sides, a part of the length of the vehicle. I will get a pic if i can hehe

Ok, flicking through the Steet Commos magazine, i saw a car up on a hoist and it confirmed the jack locations. THe area where the steel place connects for the railings has a cross on it, this is where the front hoist pads are placed and therefore the jack location.....thanks guys
