Just fitted new brakes (rotors, calipers and pads - ap racing brake kit) front and back and on very soft braking at low speeds (i.e. coming to a stop at lights) the brakes squeal/squeak. They were fitted on Thursday last week. I did not notice this initially but it seems to have started sat or Sunday. What could be causing this... it's very annoying...

it's they're racing brakes, then it's unlikely much development effort went into reducing their NVH. turn up the radio.
Remove the mice.
They came with the brake kit.. they are the Ferodo (spelling?) ones that come with AP kits.
But this shouldn't cause squeaking should it?
My mechanic fitted them... i would assume he used brake cleaner. He took them for a drive and bedded them in, but told me to take it easy for a few hundred kms. I've taken it easy but have had a few harder stops but have not given them **** or held my foot down on them whilst stopped.

why do you think that means they won't squeak?
lots of guys in white lab coats who work for OEM brake manufacturers go to long lengths to get the pad and disc compounds just right, so that they won't squeak or graunch.
if they are racing brakes, as you said, then they probably didn't bother.
of course that may not be the problem, it could just be grease on the discs, who knows.
Being new and all it may just take a few stops the get a little room for the pads to not touch the rotor. Hard pads with light stopping may squeek a bit. Not what you were looking for I bet.

It's pretty normal/common for "High Performance" brakes to be noisy. Turn up the radio.

Thanks guys. Will see how it goes. Apart from the squeaking, the brakes are bloody awesome. They stop a treat =)

Get used to it, when they stay cool, they will squeal. I'd probably recommend better pads than the ferodo rubbish you used also. I find until I get a little heat into my rotors they squeal a little.

yeh with the hi-performance brake pads you will get a bit of squelling especialy when cold and may wear a bit quicker than you thought too, so don't be suprised if this happens too as you are useing race type pads on an everyday street car.
i found this out with mine, standard vy v8 calipers, but i used dba slotted discs with bendix ultimates, and had the same problem, and as explained to me its caue there too harsh a compound for every day driving as they don't get hot enough too be used at there optimum braking capacity and there for squel cause they are still cold and also sometimes have a sharp finish on the pads.
i over came this by switching to bendix general ct's, do the same job, but better for day to day street driving and i use these with my dba slotteds, not squeling and no brake dust, can't recomend them highly enough, these were recomended to me buy the same guys i worked with that told me bout the ultimates being too harsh. also i changed my ultimates within 12-14 months(worn out close to metal) and the ct's i haven't had to change yet in 10 months and still have plenty of meat on them and haven't worn the slotted discs out any where near as much as the ultimates, sorry for the long winded message, hope this helps though and recomend trying the ct's better day to day, ultimates better for the race track.
Alot of people just dont grease there brakes and components any more. Sil-Glyde (silicon grease) or Permatex Brake grease it the way to go, fantastic for nolathane bushes as well.
