Default How do I remove flatspots in tyres?

The missus borrowed the vt to go for her license yet again (4th time and failed but thats another story) and she came to an orange light that went red.
She slammed the brakes on and locked up all 4.
Now ive just taken the car out and it feels like shes put nice big flat spots in the tyres... (its bumpy as hell)

Anyway is there a way to have the flatspots removed? or do I have to replace all 4 tyres?
Or will the problem just go away?

    cheers in advance, Ozzie

You may be able to get them buffed back - but almost not worth it if the flat spot takes them past half worn.

I had 2 new potenza's (when they first came out) on the front of my VB and first trip home from Adelaide some peanut pulled out in front of me just outside of Pt August (Stirling North) I slid past him fully locked up on the inside of him with a the car full of Xmas shopping and the mother in law. We were doing the speed limit + a wee bit and as I slid past him he looked shocked at me as the smoke billowed between us. He kept going.

Huge flat spots - thump thump. Car was just about undrivable.

$300 down the gurgler - at least we did not hit him or the gaurd rail of the bridge that goes over the train lines.

The skid markes were there for 2 odd years after.

Of the the tyre shop for some newies and the Potenzers were demoted to stock car duties.

I don't think they'd be flat spotted. ABS would have kicked in anyway. But in the event they are flat spotted, there's nothing you can do other than buy new ones.

more importantly - what's wrong with your abs?

if you inspect the tyre, is there an actual flat spot on it?

edit ^^ beat me to it

double edit - how the hell did it take me 3 minutes to write that post?

Theres no visable flat spots that I can see... Its not real bad as she was only doing about 50kmph. I asked her if she felt a shudder after it and she said no. But when I got in it and took it up the road I noticed the shudder.
The tyres are brand new (3 weeks old) and their not the cheapest z17's
Guess im gunna have to cut my losses and just wait till theyve done a few more k's till I replace em.
Oh and the missus is NOT driving it again till shes been for a hell of alot of driving lessons

Although where I get my parts & panals from, Its actually cheaper for me to replace the frontend then it is to replace the tyres lol

Women + Machinery = Tears and Heartache.

I'd go and blow the **** out of the tyres, think of this as a sign from God.

Wow, I just realised how politically incorrect I am.

Geez lol, that would truly suck lol.

    Yeah, do a burnout bro.

Maybe depending on how much you need to wear them down, just do it for the back ones, might have to get new ones for the front if they're gonna be worn down too much.

I was just thinking that, if you wear em down when they are on the rear, leave them there, ive always been told the best tyres should be at the front.

thats exactly right but nows theres a flat spot they will not even out with a burn out or just from general use it'll just wear a pattern in ur tyres and still give u vibrations n thats it. best just get new tyres if u cant put up with it lol

put the flatspotted tyres on the rear, you will still feel them, but not as much as you do as the front.
