Default Have I been given the wrong exhaust?

Ok yesterday my lukey exhaust came in, its supposed to be a 2.5" catback.
When I put it on and started her up for the first time...I was so ****ed off, sounded no different to the old exhaust...

After 1 day of driving theres a slight note to it but nothing exciting... I have heard a vs v6 with just a back muffler removed and on the inside it sounds better than mine.

There is a distinct burning sort of smell after driving the car, could this be just the **** inside it wearing in and eventually will the car get louder and sound like a lukey exhaust should? One other thing I noticed is the exhaust wasnt clear coated in black like the website says they are...

    Any help would be appreciated...

it could be a possibility. my brother got a new exhuast for his liberty 2 weeks ago (think the brand is x-force or something). it sounds good atm, but the guy at the shop that did it for him said to give it a while and it will start to sound with more grunt.
where did you get your's from. if from a shop, speak to them and see if they know what the problem is. if not, hopefully someone on here can help you a bit more.

Ordered the exhaust through super cheap auto.
Also noticed on the lukey website it says the exhaust should be clear coated in black, mine is not, but it is definately a lukey exhaust.
Ill give super cheap a ring.

yeah call supercheap. if they cant give you an answer, is there a number on the lukey website? call them if there is, and ask why it didnt come coated in black as the website suggests and perhaps if they know why it isnt sounding the best.

Lukey gave me the same answer...let it carbon up a bit, or if Im not happy I will have to take off the rear resonator. My mates VS has a rear resonator though and it's really loud so hopefully I can leave it on there...
Anyone else have experience with new exhausts that can relate to this?

if you have the right exhaust, perhaps your cat converter is blocked, quietening things down a bit?

Well my car has only done 73XXX k's ( I don't know if that makes a difference to how badly the cat could be blocked?)

If it has two mufflers, then I dare say it's a stock replacement.
Mufflers do 'break in' but the sound should be there from the get go.
You have the wrong item. You can either fight for the correct replacement or bite the bullet and get a shop to cut the rear muffler out and put a straight bit of 2.5" in there.
Just for trivial purposes too, it probably won't be 'clear coated' in black, most use matt black.
If it was a shiny rear section, it was more than likely for advertising purposes.

    Hope this helps

    Nick

Well the rear resonator isn't as large as the stock one, and the guy said he checked the numbers twice and its definitely the sports system... but yeah the sound of it sounds other wise.
This is giving me the ****s lol

I went and got the numbers off the exhaust parts
    AL5-5465 and AL3 - 4051...
I tried calling Lukey again but theyve all gone home
Does anybody have a reference to compare these numbers too?

    thought about measuring it?
the total measurement around the pipe, if its 2.5" diameter, should measure approx. 20cm around?

Or you could measure the O.D......if it's a 2.5" pipe, it should measure about.....2 and a half inches lol

Well I didnt think it would matter seeing as its still a good brand and I'd be saving on labour by doing the job myself... but yeah I can see where you're coming from. Yeah I think the rear resinator has to go as well haha.

We supply the paint to Manumatics (not 100% on spelling) and they do Redback exhausts down here in Melbourne.

We supply them with Rhinamel black, which they paint the exhausts in, my mate got a complete 2 1/2 inch Redback from them direct for $150

Mate I have a 2 1/4 inch Lukey performance Catback and its easy twice as loud as stock.

From day one I noticed it, my mates noticed it not sure what the go for you is

definitely something not right mate, there is no way that it could be the right exhaust if you have herd no change from stock. i can be sure of this, i stuff around with my exhausts alot.
