any brand name concentrate corrosion inhibitor used with distilled water read the mix ratio at the store because you may need to buy two bottles the cooling system will hold almost 11 litres.

    Never mix brands of coolant.

So always stick to one brand, that is easy to come by.

If you want a name recommended, i'll give you one.

I just use the Castrol unmixed stuff. Never had a problem.

Whats the drama if my coolant bottle (where it overflows from) is empty and i fill up with a different brand coolant? Should i have drained the system completely?

You're not meant to mix coolants but its not that major in my opinion. Just drain it when you get a chance and fill it with the one type.

    I always use Tectaloy.

i use tectaloy, costs about 20 bucks for 1litre which makes 15.
there is also water wetter which is added to straight water but ive read on the zx forum that this guy went through 3 heater cores when using this stuff, he stopped using it and his current heater core has lasted for some time now

yeah, thats the completely wrong stuff to be using.

you want the 33% ethylene glycol, normally you'll buy it as a premixed, for about $20 for 5 litres, or else, you can buy stuff you mix, but you mix it like 1 part concentrate to 1 part water or something.

No they can block the radiator.

i was told not to use tectaloy as it corrodes allymotors more than most. was told to use nylon as its alloy safe *shrug*

Do either of your cars have an all alloy engine? Tectaloy inhibits corrosion, it doesn't promote it. Anyone that says it will corrode an engine doesn't know how coolant works as far as I am concerned.

Having said that, I wouldn't use the 60 plus. I've used the 90PLUS (33% EG) and 100PLUS (50% EG) and the 100plus is my personal preference. Nulon Ultra Cool is alright as well. Both brands also have the red versions which I think are reccomended for alloy radiator cooling systems.

Its a given for batteries to use distilled water, but within the engine is not critical. The water really depends on the quality of supply. Melbourne water fine,(save your money), water that tastes bad or is murky, good idea not to put it in. There will be a high level of contaminants within the motor anyway(no matter how well its flushed out) which even after adding distilled water the levels of impurities in quality tap water will be miniscule compared to what will start circulating around in the engine.

As long as it contains glycol to protect the radiator then it will be fine, i personally use the castrol (cheaper) stuff and never had an issue.

My boss always told me to use distilled water as well but never seen the difference between town water out of a hose and distilled water.
