Hi All,
Just wondering which is the best LPG to use as I know there is different mixes of butane and propane.
I currenly use Woolworths LPG but I have heard that it is quite dirty and won't take long to clog your gas filters.
Also I was under the impression that BP LPG is lower octane than the rest?
Thanks in Advance!
Ive used all brands of gas in the last 15years and have never experienced clogging issues, changes in performance or economy (and i measure fuel consumption on every tank).
The whole mix thing? lot of hearsay on the benefits of straight propane etc(which I cant claim to have used). Octane rating, basically straight butane has the octane of unleaded and any amount of propane added to that will increase it beyond that of any available petrol.
Straight propane may be desirable if the engine is built for compression ratios in excess of 11:1 and a high octane rating needing to be always maintained.
Mixes of less than 50% propane are unlikely as there would be problems with the fuel actually getting out of the tank in colder conditions. Butane also has a higher amount of energy per litre than propane, so a mix is better value per litre than straight propane.
Thanks commsirac, now I have an understanding between propane and butane. I'll stick to filling up at Woolworths as its cheaper and you get the 4cents off and was only what one dude said the led me to question it!
ive always found mobil gas a bit better (more power and economy) this is in my ford i6
