Hey all,
My sister was in an accident a while back, when an elderly driver suddenly swerved into her without warning.
The other parties insurance sent my sisters car to a repairer to have the damage assessed and if cost effective repair it.
So a few weeks later we have the car back, the repairs consisted of replacing two passenger side doors, a center pillar, repair the sill along the bottom of the passenger side, repair to rear quarter flaked paint and there may be another few pieces.
Anyway so I went over the car this arvo as she just got it back, dad had got out there first though and poured some water along the passenger doors, "ahh, whats this it's going inside?" he said.
Yes the doors both leak, the paint is crap, slight orange peel, almost like it was sprayed light and dry, then I noticed under the sill, like from where it starts to round off to under the car, they sprayed the thickest layer of body deadener, like amillion spikes sticking out of it, and sprayed right on over it.
Thats funny I thought, it wasn't like that before, whats the other side like? and you guessed it, slight texture, very slight, can be felt but not seen, they also sprayed this up around the back of the sill and while standing behind the car it is visible in the rear passenger wheel well.
I would call this a substandard repair at best, am I wrong to think this?
I wont mention the name of the repairer but we are in the eastern suburbs and so are they.
My sister drove off to see a friend before I could get any pics, if anyone wants to see some i'll take some as soon as the car is here next.
she needs to talk to insurance about it. No doubt too, if she took it to a competitor they would make comment on it being a ****e job.
If water is getting in then it certainly isn't up to scratch.
exactly what I was thinking, I suggested she go to her insurance company and have them fight it out for her.
Do we have much of a leg to stand on, the insurance company that covered the damage is AAMI, as far as I know the idea is to return the car to as close to origional as possible, I guess I just want to know what we should be expecting?
Go to AAMI website and read their PDS. That will give you their interpretations and what you should expect. A few people seem to be having this problem with AAMI. They give the repair job to the cheapest and nastiest. AAMI don't seem to care for the quality of a repair. If that was my car and I found it to be rapired with bog, I'd be ready to crack some skulls.

Hang on, if you weren't at fault and the other party was paying you can take it wherever the hell you want. You do NOT have to abide by their parties terms.
I'd be having words with your sisters insurance company and seeing if they are willing to help out.

I see you are insured with AAMI, well so am i and I need to make a claim too. This arvo i was reversed into, the car is 9 days old!!! Anywho, i got my aami stuff out and found the "CUSTOMER CHARTER" under "motor vehicle service guarantee i found the following"
9) all aami motor vehicle assessors will be qualified motor vehicle repair tradespeople
10) The quality of the workmanship and the materials authorised in the repair of your car will be guaranteed for the life of the car
In a previous section it also mentions that within 5 working days of collecting your repaired car, you will be contacted to ensure you are satisfied with the repair.

speak to aami and let them know what a **** job was done on your car, then take it elsewhere to have their fk ups fixed, if they cant get it right the first time they wont the second
I wouldn't be putting up with that mate! I would get onto them asap and get it sorted!! adding to that, as soon as i heard center pillar need's replacing and sill,s (imo) the car should have been written off! there must have been a fair bit of damage? i would be seeing if i could get a payout to buy another car![]()

the center pillar had a small dent near the bottom, roof line was intact, no ripple in it or anything, the two doors had to be replaced and the sill was bent, not a huge amount of damage, but enough :P
imo the car should have been written too, only because of the center pillar, if they could have pulled it back into shape then reinforced it from behind I would be ok with it, but I can't live her life for her, she is my OLDER sister and as such is the boss.
thank you for the info guys, i'll get onto her to get onto her insurer.
I had a repair done two years ago covered by ING Insurance (all went well) but I was discussing AAMI with the owner of the business. He told me that they wont deal with AAMI for a few reasons:
1) Because at that time (don't know if they still do) AAMI didn't offer choice of repairer and always went with whoever was the cheapest. The smash repairer said whatever they quoted for a job someone dodgy would always undercut them and the repairer wasn't prepared to cut corners to compete for a job.
2) After doing a job for AAMI they would always try screw the repairer out of getting paid by say particular items were not necessary. Basically they were more trouble to deal with than what they were worth.
Things may have changed since then, I don't.

there is still no choice of repairer, luckily there are only 3 AAMI approved centers in my areas and iv heard good things about all of them lol
