Default Are genuine Commodore parts reasonably priced or expensive?

OK, there have been many comments made about the price of GENUINE Commodore parts.

So, do you believe the cost of the genuine parts is reasonable or expensive. How about a few examples to support your views?

I'll kick off with a few. Bear in mind these are all trade prices, as I am lucky to have a friend at the local dealership.

    Front rotors - $39
    Front pads - $44
VZ Calais taillamp assembly - $152.10
    Delco Battery - $82.50
Satin Silver steering wheel spoke kit - $30.56
VY Calais chromed bonnet strip (top of grille) - $95.50

I reckon those parts were reasonably priced.

On the other hand, the genuine S spoiler for a VY cost me $306. I know aftermarket spoilers on E bay are avaialble for considerably less, but I wanted the guarantee that the thing would fit, have a good finish and would plug straight into the existing wiring.

So, what is your experience with Commodore parts?

Same again.. S/C CAI $55 from Holden.

VN SS fog light switch $22.50 from Holden (have seen them on ebay for $50!)

Some things can be quite expensive, especially if it discontinued stuff, or old stock. For example headlights for a VN, I was quoted $395 a pair from holden. Aftermarket, should be able to find for $100 or less. Ignition coils from Holden, $300. I paid $120 from Repco.

Overall, genuine stuff from Holden is priced ok. If you hunt around, you'll always find a better price.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Yeah good and bad prices, But my local dealer will normally tell me if I can get it cheaper elsewhere and will tell me to go there, so cant complain.

    VK mc6 Clutch Cable - Holden 55 bux (75 normally), After market - 145
VK Thermostate sensor - Holden 35, Aftermarket 15
VN Bonnet insulator press caps (the set) - Holden 20, Rarespares 34, Aftermarket 53

I always buy AC Delco filters, because they actually make the filters for holden just with a different label. And there a bit cheaper to.

From my experiance Holden are very reasonable on most stuff, i allways get a price for genuine first as ive been shocked at how cheap they can be on some stuff.

CAI - $55 cant go wrong
    VZ strut brace $50
Executive badge for my VS (on the dash) $5
Satin chrome handbrake, auto shifter $45 for the lot

ive bought alot of screws, pins, clips, nuts etc from holden aswell as its just easier and you know your getting the right part.

from what i've bought from holdens recently yes i believe some parts are priced well but when i needed some wiring from a vz to fit vz side repeaters to my vs they wanted $60 bux just for one side.

but i like the fact my strut brace cost $40

i usually get a price from holden and another from repco before buying parts. holden prices vary from dirt cheap to f off expensive. retail price front rotors were $180 ea ( brakepro 60 ) , 1 coil for vs $112 ( repco 52 ), genuine rubber strut tops - bargain, stop tail loom with globes $23 bargain. front padsfrom holden are about $130 ?!!! QFM 45.

^^^ sounds like i'll have to get a CAI though, yeah.

Try one GU Patrol Headlight - 450 bux, its a sealed unit so when the glass cracks (like alot of off road cars do) you have to buy the entire headlight

I get trade prices so obviously i think the prices are good.
On the other hand, i had a cracked taillight lens on my rodeo and i had to buy the whole light, $450!!!
Needless to say i rang around and found a rodeo that had been stoved in at the front so picked up the whole rear assembly for $75.

A lot of their aftermarket stuff is a rip off. $100 for headlight protectors for my VE is a joke. Can't remember how much the floor mats were but they were exorbitant too. That said, compared to other manufacturers it's about par.

Many of their spare parts on the other hand are very well priced. Most of the time I have been pleasantly surprised when I had to buy something.

I'll agree there ^^^ most of the time when i go down to Ferntree Gully Holden spare parts, most of the actual PARTS are resonably priced (basically always ends up less than what i think), but their merchandise is a complete joke price wise.

And for ****s and giggles i priced a genuine VP Senator kit, they quoted me:

    $1300 for the sideskirts

$1700 for the front bar with grille

    $1700 for the rear bar

Forgot how much the boot spoiler and flare ticks were. Bloody expensive!

went to holden to ask about a new HSV dash badge. $350 if i provide a VIN number. i remember reading somewhere that HSV keep one spare of these badges, at a lower price, and any others after that would be full cost?
