    Default ecotec engines

    Hi guy's

Ok can anyone here tell me what phisical differences are between say a VS and a VY engine , like engine mounts , plenums and are the engine mount's , gearboxs interchangable between the two engines . . . ect. . . ect

i'm thinking about putting a V6 ecotech motor out of a VY in to my VL by using a VS X member , engine mounts but. . . i'm not sure if the VS engine mounts will fit a VY engine .. I'm also hoping that i might be able to use the 5 speed (T5 i think) box from a VS on the VY engine

Then run the engine with the standard VY ECU with the VATS and a couple of other things disabled . Anyways its just a thought at the moment becouse the RB30 is getting a little tired and i want to replace the engine with a V6 that has low K's and has a bit more grunt that the NA RB30 just until i get off my P's .

    Cheers

Mate you must have deep pockets and lots of time. If you go with a VT ecotec you can get a rechip in the post , but Vx onward is keyed to rest of car and not an easy option. Makeing mounts is easy and any body half handy can remount most motors then have a custom drive shaft made to suit.Driveing the speedo can also be a big headache.

lol yeah if i had deep pockets i wouldn't be converting my VL to a V6 . I just thought that seeing as i cant drive a V8 or a turboed 6 then a VY engine would probably be the next best thing . A friend of a friend told me that it should be a pretty strait forward conversion and that all i would need is . . . .

    1. VS subframe/crossmember
    2. VS engine mounts
    3. VS manual transmision & tailshaft

As for the elctrical side of things i was planning on using a wiring harnes from a VY and getting the BCM&ECU sent away to get the funtions on both the ECU & BCM disabled like the ABS and electronic security features dissabled .

The other reason for this is i allso want to do a VY/VZ dash conversion in to the VL seeing as the VL dash aint that great in the looks department , it'd kinda be like killing two birds with the one stone

I have been given a VS subframe/crossmember , engine mounts , transmission . I just need to know if the engine mounts and transmisions from a VS will bolt up to a VY engine if not then i'l just go back to using the NA RB30 engine until i get off my P's .

Sounds great on paper, and a lot of early to late holden subframe can be swaped , but,I still think you will have a problem even with the speedo/dash/ecu/loom and droping it into the car.Have you checked with your reprogramer on this if they think it will work? This could be the big $64000 question.

engines are the same. slight head differences and exhaust differences (plus tune).

i have a VT supercharged v6 ecu and loom. the ecu can be tuned to suit.

vs and vt are almost identical. but the vx onwards have a completely different inlet manifold and exhaust manifold and the electronics arent suited to other cars without sh*tloads of work.

you would just be better off going with the vs motor seeing as they are a hell of a lot cheaper, they only have 5kw less power anyway, and you know it will fit with the crossmember
