Hi all,
I'm looking at getting some King Springs Superlows for my VS Berlina. What I'm wondering is, how low could it be dropped before needing to get some shorter throw shocks? It would look TUFF dumped a bit moreand I just want to know what it would take for me to do it.
Thanks in advance
I think you can keep the rear shocks standard but not the front with SL's
Ah k, thanks.
Anybody have any suggestions as to what I should be replacing to match the springs?
shortened shocks ?
Looking on eBay, I see superlows with Monroe GT rear shocks only, but no front shocks. Does this make sense? Should there be front but not rear shocks? Should there be both?
Any more help would be greatly appreciated.
you shud be alrite with the standerd shocks m8...i had SSL in mine with normal shocks and was fine
Eeenteresting... What about if I were to want Ultralows?![]()
I'm not sure exactly how low these springs will drop it compared to what it is now, since the guy who owned it before me had it lowered slightly.
The lower it is, the better!
Why don't you go to the Kings website and see what they say, which is shortened shocks are recomeneded for any springs lower than std.
Superlows could have your std shocks pounding the piston into the bottom of the shock over any large bumpsor dips.

Shortened shocks are used to trap the springs. The standard shocks will still work but if you go too quick over a bump the rear springs may fall out.
i was told if i go any lower than fe2's ill need to change shocks bridgestone
Thanks for all the replies, I'm pretty much set on dumping it a bit more, the only thing being I'd like to keep it legal.
Considering it's a '96 VSII Berlina, how high does the lowest point of it sit with standard ride height? I want it to be low, but still over 100mm from the ground, no defects for me if I can help itSo if I could find out the standard ground clearance and then how far it'll drop with SL/SSL/UL springs, I can finally make a decision which ones to get
Thanks
You'll be on bump stops with UL springs since there is no such thing (in the kings range anyway). THere is a SSSL spring though.
If your after legal... SL is probably as low as you can go.
Just a quick note on shock springs and needing shocks to trap them.
Some people say you don't need shortened shocks because you need to get "Air" for the spring not to be captured by the bump stops.
My make had SSSL rear and SL front in a VT clubby and i have the same in my VX S.
What we noticed was going into some driveways... the car was on 3 wheels only... at which point we were glad that we got shortened shocks.
Also... if your planning on going SSL and SSSL your gonna be paying through the nose (like i did) for racing shocks as there isn't a street shock available that will trap that spring properly.
Cheers
Eeeexcellent, thanks very much JesterartsVery useful, I'll look into getting some SLs then

No worries mate... good luck with it...
Oh... just a quick FYI... its a Series 2 VS so IRS i'm assuming right (not sure... only ever worked on a VY Stato).
When your changing the rear springs... remember... handbrake off...
Cheers
Nah mate, live axle. No IRS. Was an optional extra, even on SII.
Ok.... well there we go... I learnt something new today... Was the stato facotry IRS or optional aswell, and what about the calais?
PS, sorry for thread hijack
VSII Calais was IRS standard, VSII Stato I'm not sure about.. an Optional extra was 'auto-levelling suspension', not sure.
Opposite way around.......
The fronts are trapped because they have a shocker going through the centre...
The rears can come loose if you go over a big enough bump or jack the car up...
In all seriousness mate, if you want to look low then ultra's are your best bet.. I'm pretty sure i remember seeing somewhere you need to keep 2/3 of your suspension travel and sl's don't even allow that much..
I'm so lucky i went with ultra's with mine, i would of been VERY unhappy with supers![]()
(if you don't drive like an idiot you should be fine, I've noticed you will be fine aslong as you don't draw attention to yourself)
(Btw supers or lower you need shortened shockers to keep the springs captured)
ALSO look up ultima shockers, my mate has them and they are great from my experience AND CHEAP.... my rears are pedders and stuffed so im getting them when i get off my ass![]()
^^^ Correct on the 2/3 suspension travel. Tough with SL you would be sweet cause its 2/3 of suspension travel with the lowest suspension that was fitted to that model car... so from FE2... (95% sure on that)
dude, if u have live rear axle and you lower the car you'll need shortened shocks at the rear, you can keep the fronts as is as long as they're pretty good.post pics wen ur done. it will look phat!! best of luck
