Last time I bought a car, over 4 years ago, I waved the warranty and saved about $1000. The VX never had an issue so I made the right choice.
I'm looking at a WK V6 Statesman tonight and its from a WA AHG dealership.
The car comes with a standard warranty for 3 years BUT you can upgrade it for over $1500. Is it worth the upgrade?
Here is a link to compare their standard to upgraded warranty.
Extended Warranty is offered FREE on all used cars purchased at AHG dealerships
doesnt look too bad, depends how much u trust the last owner of the car. would u have to pay to replace the fluids they need to use when they are doing warrenty jobs?
Not worth the paper and certainly not worth the price. If something drastic happens and they can't find a way to weasel out of it (bloody unlikely), they'll contribute some stupid amount towards the repair.
You'll never make your money back. Ever.
Take the $1700, put it on the red and you'll get much better for your buck.
Certainly not worth it, my cousin got the upgrade, had dramas and guess what? "Sorry sir, that's not covered by the extra warranty."
Save your coin.
When i got my VY it still had 6 months of new car waranty left on it, i purchased another 3 years to start after the factory warranty ran out. It cost $1000 nz for 3 years cover and so far with having to replace the tentioner pully ($700 including labour) and replacing a faulty door lock actuator ($450 including labour) mine has payed off so far and i still have 2 years of cover left.
It all depends on the car, on my old S1 VT the only thing i had to get fixed was an idler pully but my S2 VY has had more problems even though it had half the milage of the old VT.
ok, yes depends on warranty, if its a dealership warranty simmilar to the factory warranty, its ok as they will meet half way and cover most things, if its a simmilar warranty type to the nationwide warranty, i wouldn't bother, i could of had the holden extended 3 year warranty, but opted for the 5 year nation wide so i could service it myself, just no one told me i had to get it serviced at a registered dealer and fax/mail the invoices in my self to keep the warranty,
plus they don't cover 90% of the items factory warranty does, i have found this out the hard way, power steering pump leaking, not covered under sterring components, power steering rack, only if can prove the internal seal is leaking and not an outer seal or boot, engine electricals-throttle position sensor not covered, not a major sensor of the engine as its on the throttle body, i'v had many arguments over this and so has holden on my behalf with them, this is one aftermarket warranty not worth the paper its printed on, and as a mechanic in a dealership i see this all the time with simmilar warranty companies, mind you there are probably some very good ones out there, just be very carefull with them.
The car i bought had a warranty booklet from the previous owner in the glovebox. The amount of stuff they DONT cover for that money is laughable. By all rights the warranty booklet should be sitting somewhere on the side of the Geelong - Melbourne Road
Dont waste your money. If you're worried about the car breaking down, put the money you would have spent on the warranty aside and keep it in a "car fix" fund. It will probabaly be alot mre better off there.
