Default What really good tyres should i get?

    Hi guys,

I need some new rear tyres for my VY SS 18"s. Front ones are still okay. I am currently running Hankook V8RS tyres, which are okay, but would like something that gives really good traction in wet and dry. Not too fussed about how long they last - my hankooks have only given me about 20,000kms. I am happy to spend up to $500 or so per tyre if it's worth spending that much, or if it's worth spending extra i could stretch my budget. As long as it's a top tyre. I heard the Goodyear Eagle F1's are good, but also heard that they are now made in China and are crap? Your thoughts?

Also, would semi slicks be an option?

    Anyways, recommendations would be great.

    Thanks.

I can't remember the exact ones, but I think they were Yokohama 352's.

They're a bloody great set of tyres. They grip like absolute hell, and DON'T burnout, because they just grip to much.

Expensive, but very very very grippy.

According to their site they don't do anything bigger than 15", seems a bit odd in this day and age.

Because they're actually older tyres, but still apparently some of the best gripping around.

That's what my mate at his tyre place stated. He said he's never found a tyre that grips so well. But as I said, I'm not 100% sure on the exact one's.

Pirelli P6000s are also another nice tyre. Relatively quite, pretty grippy in both conditions.

Yes, something like Bridgestone RE55s are legal and grip like **** to a blanket once warm. Probably the best R-Spec tyre out there. Just not something to drive around on everyday with, as I only managed to get roughly 15,000km's out of them. (roughly 25,000km's from a set of R-Spec Federal's)

Dunlop SP-Maxx or Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 or the F1 ASM's, heard great things about them.

    I'm fine with the P6000's I've got. 215 wide.

They're pretty good in the wet, but I don't drive wild like I do in the dry, it's just to slippery. Plus the ass-end of my car has bugger all grip in the wet anyway. Even with other sets of tyres.

In the dry though, they grip superb, great for a bit of fun, smoke nicely, and the car has awesome handling.

i cant believe there is a thread about wanting to pay a reasonable amount for tyres, usually its about the cheapest tyres.

a guy at work runs toyo tyres, dunno exactly which ones they are, but he says the a fairly grippy tyre

LOL it is weird, nothing can be more beneficial than a nice sticky tyre though. Can make or break your car, dragstrip or just everyday handling.
