    Default CB Radio

    Alright.

I plan on getting a CB radio installed into my car.

What brand or models are a good option?

NOTE: I'll be happy to install one of the small aerials to my car too, so if possible could you point me in the right direction.

Uniden is an awesome brand for radios, not sure if they do CB's but seeing as they do VHF and UHF, i'm pretty sure they will...they just make crappy phones when it comes to an internet connection, but that's a side issue and not really related to this thread

Sorry, I think it's UHF I'm talking about.

The 40-channel things. Where you can choose between a long or short antenna.

If anyone has one they might be interested in selling cheap, let me know too.

Yeah that's UHF for sure, and Uniden is definitely the go :-)

Yeah, here's their website and authorised stockists (:: Uniden Australia ::), with a handheld you may have to get a car kit so you might want to talk to the stockist and find out what they recommend

I'm just looking at the used ones on ebay.

Some are pretty good. But I don't have that money at the moment.

i have a uh-015sx in my vz with an elevated 6.5db gain antenna

    Barbados Blue VZ Wagon

pics in the end of post 1,

its a good radio, the only thing that could be better is a broader range of programmable scanner frequencies, 400-512 mhz limits you a bit,

for the main unit, i just cut 4 slits in the carpet and put a cable tie through tio hold the mounts, saves using screw into metal

I'll probably just get one of the used one's off ebay once I've got the money.

I've got many other things I want to do first before I get myself a radio for it.

    A long list. >_<

Sorry but uniden SUCK for uhf radios. Everyone sounds like they're talking with a sock over the mic all the time, very poor imo.
We have gme and they're excellent. Given we have at least 40 of the i can definately say they're a good set, well worth the money.

We use the same and have to agree. I run them in my trucks/cars/machinery without any dramas. Although I keep replacing hand pieces cause my guys keep swinging off them and ****ing all the wires.

I'll ask my 2 of my mates who have them installed in their 4WD, and see what they recommend.

but i found this was a good unit. thats my mates that i gave him.

See, I'd pretty much be screwing into the plastic on the console on the passenger side in my VN.

Yeah that could be true, we haven't had one in the last 18 months or so. We only ever had 2 of them and give them the flick because the truck drivers were sooking about them.

    Agreed....
Have a close to 10year old GME in the landcruiser, picks everything up, broadcasts far. The patrol has a newish (1 year old maybe) Uniden, its puss, cant pick crap up, cant transmit for ****, once we got in the hills we had heaps of trouble keeping talking to the Patrol.

We have GME in all the 4wd's except the Patrol which has the Uniden, cant beat the GME in my opinion.

I haver Uniden scanner, its good, but I find my "realistic" one alot better.

Uniden Handhelds are very good though.

How much for just a GME unit with it's mounting bracket.

    Like a 40Channel UHF?

    No antenna, at the moment.
