Hi guys,
I was unfortunate enough to have been in a front drrver side head on crash with another vehicle. To cut a long story short all damage has been repaired, but there is a slight vibration felt through the steering wheel at 120km/hr or above. Also when braking at higher speeds the steering wheel vibrates slightly.
I thought the problem might have been a warped brake disc but the mechanic tells me that if the brake disc was warped that I would feel it through the brake pedal, which I don't. I've had all wheels balanced and re balanced but still the problem persists.
The impact happened at the driver front side head on. I was stationary at the time of impact but i did have my foot on the brake during impact.
What do you guys think it might be? I'm stumped but this vibration is driving me mad!
Cheers,
lemonaed
wheel bearing? stub axle? other bent suspension parts or maybe a wheel alignment, check your tyre condition for uneven wear.
Nobody wants to play with me
could even be unbalanced
oh wait.... i read u had an acco... i would say damaged suspension too.
does your steering wheel sit dead centre when driving in a straight line?
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
If its worse while braking, then would suspect suspension component that is loose, bent etc. These things are hard to diagnose after a hit on the front of a vehicle. Did you pay for the repairs, if so, get them to finish the job properly.
Hi. All wheels balanced. Front shocks have also been replaced. Wheel alignment done. Steering wheel straight while driving in a straight line as well. Do you guys reckon that it's not likely to be the brake disc?
yes it does. i've also had the two front shocks replaced. still a vibration! it's not a big vibration but enough to irritate while driving!
easy just dont drive at 120kmh :P
it could be unrelated to the accident, as stated wheel balance, Uni joints can cause wierd vibrations, the steering column could have been damaged in the accident or the rack/rack ends or the tie rod ends.
Get pedders to go over the car, they wont drive it at 120 to find out but they have some pretty good equipment and will soon let you know.
I think it must be related to the accident because the vibration wasn't there before the accident.
Can't go to peddlers, have exported the car to Ireland! Trying to problem solve from the other end of the planet!
