Ive put this here as im guessing the flap used is common to more the one model comm.
The centre console compartment flap wont stay shut, the one that works by pushing it closed, then pressing it in again to open it.
Is there an easy fix(how do they work) is it easy to get to the mechanism?
Thankyou
same thing happend to mine, i pulled it apart and it seems i broke the pin holder bit of plastic, its easy too pull out, just pull the dash surround off the gear stick part,
i know what i mean, then unscrew the 2 screws n either side of the cigerate lighter then the 2 screws on the side of the flap thingy, pull it out, its a simple mechanism but yeah, seems it breaks easy
Same happened to me.
$15 from a wrecker. The mechanism is pretty simple, but it's small and inaccessible. Unless you're unmployed and have got an abundance of time, just replace it.
my oldman had the same prob with his work wagon "bloody holden" was his comment, ended up giving it back and driving his ford mondeo instead

It is a 15 minute job, just not long did the one on my VX SS.
The door or flap comes off the compartment, the left hand hinge is a sliding pin, just put a knife or screwdriver under the head and slide the pin out,
then pull the right side of the door towards you, needs a bit of pulling for it to release, you then have the door and the mechanism that works it in your hand, replace the tiny clip mechanism that holden supply, refit the door and refit the left side pin. Job done. Don't need to remove anything other than the door its self. Can't remember what the new part cost, but when you see the tiny part it was dear for what it was.
thanks for that ^, will give it a whirl....
This little compartment and the flap mechanism have to be the most useless feature in the VT-VZ interiors. The compartment is too small to be of much use, it's in an awkward location and the lid opens every time you bump it when picking something out of the tray beneath it.
I reckon it would have been better left out, which would have made the console tray comparment larger and more useful.
Actually, i put a few nick nacks in there and now it wont close, they constantly fall out, even with the gentle accelerations experienced in my vx
theres one in the back of the console also... (under the rear vents)
if you cant fix it, do what i did and glue the broken one shut and install it into the back of the console and use the one from the back in the front until you get time to get a new one
Fits an iPod Touch fine!Out of sight for when i'm in a dodgy area. Or bright lights make my tinting useless at protecting things visibile on the front seat. Well, the VY ones fit the touch's anyways. Never had a problem with mine.
But i do have the cupholders full too. Two handheld CB's and heaps of wires.
I had a different problem with mine. I pulled the unit out and stripped it apart to find that the plastic sockets the front door is clipped into had broken.
With yours, it sounds like the clip that holds the door closed has broken off. You may be able to modify something to fit and do the same job, or just replace the whole unit.
They are common between the VT, VX, VY and VZ, but some spec models (SS, Calais ect) use different finishes so best to compare it to yours.
To get it out, there are two screws either side of your cigarette lighter. Take those out and that will allow you to pull the entire cover that goes around your gearbox and to the bottom of the radio out. then you'll see a screw either side of that unit and just pull it out.
I have replaced the clip in mine twice and it has **** itself again so i took the spring out and put it back in around the other way . Now when you open it, it closes by itself.
