    They'll hit you for heaps.

It'd be much cheaper to do yourself.

    Not hard.

    Plugs
    Leads
    Oil
    Oil Filter
    Air Filter
    Fuel Filter

    ...and that's pretty much it.

Check the brake pads and discs. Other than that, you're good.

Could be anything. They'll usually find anything wrong with it, like a light bulb and fix it.

    Probably atleast $400

Yeah , when my son got his VY serviced they rang him to tell him one of his globes needed replacing ( a parking light Globe i think ). He gave them the ok to do it and they charged $20

i dont go to holden to get my serviced in usually do every 2nd service myself the others i take to a trusted mechanic who has his own business and takes pride in his work never had any trouble with any of my cars and dont have to worry about a young apprentice thrashing my car around.

To keep the resale value up on my WK Caprice I'm gonna get it serviced by someone who can stamp the log book. Its always been serviced by Holden in Fremantle by the previous owner so I booked in a server at Holden Clarkson (WA). I figure if I keep Holden taking care of the car I'll get better resale value as it looks good on paper.

I am nervous about them doing a good job. If they take care of me I'll go back but if they screw me around I'll have to find independent help.

You know most workshops can do log book services now? Not just holden.

Yes I know but I figure if it says HOLDEN in the log book for its whole life it will keep future buyers more interested. Plus the Holden Clarkson dealership is literally as close to my house as the closest independent service agents.

    Don't really think it matters.

On a personal level, resale is never an issue, as i'll be keeping my cars.

the steering shudder is from your front discs needed to be machined. its called brake shudder. or warped/glazed discs.

ROFL @ Holden. They aren't special, their mechanics probably aren't even near as good as a GOOD non Holden mechanic.

Majority of them are apprentices, they will sting you for EVERYTHING (and on a VY, which isn't really new anymore they will find everything little thing and make up things too) and ANYTHING.

I wouldn't let a Holden dealership breath on my car. They would probably try and charge me $100 for labour anyways if they did breath on it.

Trust me dude, find a GOOD mechanic who owns his own shop and get him to do it. If it's a minor service, do it yourself. Drain oil, once drained, unscrew oil filter, take new filter, use some oil out your new bottle of oil to lube it up, screw the new one on, do the sump plug back up (may as well put a new plug washer on too if it hasn't been done oin the last year or so), fill up with fresh oil.

Top up all other fluids, done and done.

Oil (Penrite etc), filter and sump plug washer won't even cost you $100.

As VN SS said, it's probably your discs and they need to be machined. Holden will tell you it's 3 other things, replace them, charge you a fortune, then they will do your discs. They are complete con artists when it comes to service earlier model Holdens.

From memory there is a problem with one of the high pressure lines or something, causes the juddering/shuddering.

Amazing how many people actually live with this problem, it would annoy the hell out of me

Dont know who told you that? All i've been able to find is that the high pressure hose between the pump and steering gear gets replaced with a revised hose, and new brackets are fitted.
