ADR, EPA, Supercharger, Vic Roads and several other small words :P
Ok so I have scoured the internet and these forums for this information but havn't found allot.
I have also talked to a Vass signitory (They issue engineering certificates in Victoria for modded vehicles)
According to the one I spoke to the only way to add a supercharger and get an engineering certificate is to have a full EPA test done, which will cost $3000 per run, so if you fail the test, it's a wasted 3k
Now it was my understanding that an engineering certificate was for saftey and road worthiness requirments?
I guess i'm just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice, II want to supercharge, I cant afford a kit, I have basically everything (Mostly) ready to go, even a Sprintex/Opcon Auto Rotor 3150 Twin screw, but before I fork out to rebuild the sprintex, I want to know If I can do this legally or not.
Also has anyone done this in other states, and does it cost the same? I have heard that in nsw and such it only costs $100 per run, if that is the case, i'd ratehr drive up there for a week and have a holiday.
Yes you have to do the test to have it legal unless you run lpg then you are free of emmisions testing. NSW is cheaper but I don' know if tests done in NSW hold up in Victoria. You can run lpg on superchargers years ago there was a light blue Torana that was built by a lpg shop in Hamilton as a test case and it was pretty meanand 100% legal, you could easily have the car setup to run lpg for the 3 grand it costs to have the emissions test so that's the way to go
read this.
LM8185's Raptor Blown VS V6
i dunno how exempt it is for lpg - hunt around on the EPA website - it's defianately less strict, but unsure if it's completely exempt![]()
I thought it was pre 1986 cars are 100% exempt if on LPG.
Thank you for the info so far guys, keep it comming though :P
anyone know exactly how much it would cost in NSW or SA and if it would hold up with Vic if the figures are displayed on the test result or not, etc, etc.
If the test results show the figures, I just need to show the VASS guy those figures and a stock holdens figures. I guess.
Edit:
Ok I just read through on that link you showed me, maybe i'll give the old insurance company a ring, that is actually my number two concern, my number one concern still is abiding by the law and of course protecting the planet, i'll run it as close to Holden specs as possible e.g same boost, same tune no intercooler and plant a tree or two.

ok spoke to insurance just a moment ago, they basically said i'd have to call during business hours to confirm, but there should be no issue as far as super charging goes, I love Insurance
Hey say the police do send someone off to get there car tested for suspected non complience, who then has to pay for it?
hahaha, you could always argue that the engine vacume wasn't spreading the gas properly between all cylinders, the charger just made it even :P
then again If I went gas i'd go direct injection and then supercharge it.
Ive heard the direct injection cant provide enough fuel for boost though, anyone know if thats true?
