This country is going to ****.
We have the police saying they wont travel above the speed limit in emergencys now because they risk losing their license, now add to that motorists not bothering to move for an ambulance.

Before today i would've. I've had to enter an intersection before (not a redlight camera one) rather than hold an ambulance up for 3 minutes.
Now i wont be. Might print out a copy of that article and hand it to the driver should i be holding them up.

the guy was in the wrong, plain and simple.
if he was in the way, the ambulance would have driven over the island onto the wrong side of the road to get past, I've seen them do it numerous times.

That said you shouldnt be penalised for it.
What happened to the days where you could give someone a helping hand with out the fear of being sued or penalised.

the article states that he was going from Seaton to Marion...
the average person wouldn't even take south road to do this, its out of the way, and is always busy...
So because you would choose a different route, he deserves the fine? You don't know if he was attending a certain place whilst on the way to his destination.
I hope the ambulance is on its way to you when its getting held up by me!

plus, we're assuming he was the first off the line, with the ambulance directly behind him, which would more than likely leave the turn right lane free for the ambulance to use.
plus, if the ambulance can't even be seen in the photo, we must assume it wasn't that close, which means the old guy could have changed lanes before being stopped at the lights.
You obviously havn't been there during peak traffic times. The turning right lane and turning left lane are the most used, so him being in the normal lane and the only car in that lane is perfectly normal. Also the turning right onto Richmond road light is the LAST in the sequence.
Have you seen how quickly the cameras activate? My mate got done years ago, and you could only just see his car, and my car infront of his. It wouldn't get the ambulance.
For those playing from other states, this is the intersection.

highly unlikely.
its a lot more likely that the old guy panicked when he saw the lights/heard the siren, and didn't see the red light.

I think that Imahoon is just ignorant. If i was in a situation where there was an ambulance behind me and i had to move into the intersection to let him pass i would. Every second an ambulance loses is less likely that the person their saving is gonna make it. I hope that if someone i loved was in trouble that their ambulance got there too late coz someone wouldn't move for them.
I have had to move into an untersection with a red light before to allow a police car to pass, i think it all comes down to common sense. If your moving out of the way to a vehicle that is potentially going to save someones life, i don't think you should be punished for it
