I purchased a Jack from AutoBarn a few months ago, it wasn't cheap yet it wasn't the most expensive one.
Recently when I use it, I can Jack a car 1cm before it starts leaking oil and will not go up any higher.
I no longer have the receipt so I can't take it back, is there any way to fix it or is it screwed?
Thanks,
Chris
general rule autobarn/supercheap and all of those crappy sort of stores = crappy products at high prices![]()
Eureka styles!
go buy another one - the same.
wait a few days, take the old on back with the reciept and ask for your money back.
you now have a working jack.
or just take the jack in and explain the situation.
I had this problem with a K-mart jack a few years back. The jack lasted about five years so I decided to overhaul it. When I dismantled it and took the seals to a specialist who stocked a huge variety of "O" rings and seals, I found that the dimensions of the seals were non-standard and couldn't be replaced. The solution was a new jack. Should have seen the bloke who worked at the tip jump when I dumped the old one - he couldn't grab it quickly enough and stuff it in his boot. As it had no seals or oil in it at all, I suspect he might have been a bit disappointed when he tried it.
Typical of all the cheaper Chinese/Taiwanese stuff - once if fails, it's junk.
Haha I had my crappy blue $50 autobarn jack blow a hydraulic seal when I was lowing the T700 out of my V8 ^_^ The damn trans fell right out on my arm! rofl
I got myself a good $200 2 tonne low-entry garage jack now - best bloody thing in the world. Weighs about as much as a bloody brumby, and it's just as sturdy. Love it.

In regards to your jack, I'd say it's almost certainly a seal that's gone. Did it come with a repair/service manual? Consult that for instructions on servicing the main fluid seal.

i had the same problem. just keep filling it back up with oil (it doesn't take much) and don't get under the car if it's being supported by the jack only

Yeah the autobarn jacks always seem good for a few weeks, then you jack the car up, realise you forgot something, walk off, come back to put the stand under and oh? the car is on the ground again? 1200kg my ass.
Do up the screw tighter? I've always had supercheap jacks.
Some are fantastic, some die in the ass. You get roughly a 50/50.

I'd personally feel safer under a car supported by a scissor jack, than a cheap hydraulic jack. Even though I've known of scissors to break as well![]()

Not me. I will never ever get under a car supported by one of those. And especially not the one I had when I owned my Vl, which appeared to be made out of a bunch of twigs taped together and painted black. As soon as I jacked the old Vl up, the jack crapped itself. I pulled it out from underneath the car and it was more bent and twisted then a crazy-man's walking stick.
Good times.
And I've owned a Super Cheap jack for years, and never had a problem with it.....![]()
I wont get under a car unless its supported by a jack witht he weight just taken off of it by a good stand, then again ive been known to use other things as stands but it works well :P
