Hey guys
My VS 5ltr has been off the road the last 3 weeks, didnt have oil in it for about 2 weeks or so. Its come to the point where i need to start the car. Obviously i refilled it with oil.
Started it, and its making a loud ticking/clanking noise.
Ive tried starting it 3 times, but all 3 times its made the noise straight away, and ive shut the engine off after about 2 seconds.
I cant tell where the noise is coming from because im not game to let it run long enough to listen exactly where its coming from, but it sort of sounds like the lifters, but louder. What could it be?
And what should i be doing about it?
Not sure if its 100% an oil related problem or anything, its just a thought. I cant think of anything else that would make that sort of noise....??
Please help!
Cheers.
Did you replace the filter?
maybe you need to wait for the oil to be pumped through... when my car went on a 9 month holiday i had to let it idle on its own for about 45 seconds till it idled properly because the top of the motor was dry as... sounded like it had a mean as cam in it :P
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
thats what i had to do... had no other choice... the noise should go away after a lil while... if not then u may have a problem, but i reckon thats all it is

let it idle, if the oil light stays on for more than 45 seconds kill the engine and replace oil pump.
or drain the oil out, put vaso in the oil pump.
this happened to me on a oil change also. try a different filter.... filled with oil. remove pump and fill with vaseline as mentioned also. then drop coil lead and crank over and see if the oil light goes out (may wanna charge battery first). yo umay also wanna fit a tempory oil pressure gauge at the pump until you get this sorted. if you wanna crank it till you get oil pressure it may help to remove all the plugs, much easier on the starter motor/battery

found the issue yet?
Thanks heaps guys.
Sorted the issue earlier on, i took the pump off, packed with vaso, and prefilled oil filter and within a few seconds of started the noise quietened and then stopped, so i would say it was the lifters.
New gasket i put on it leaking now thoughso i gotta redo it all over again, but at least i know it worked!
so the oil pump is worn out and used vaso to help seal it, you know what to do next!!

good to hear you got it sorted. i wish they were all that easy
maybe not, if he let it sit longenough with no oil in the pan etc all the oil in the pump could have slowly leaked back into the sump. when he fired it up after filling with oil the pump wouldn've had enough suction to pull the oil out of the sump. also known as a airlock.
