Hey guys, just wanting to know what you would do with $5000 in terms of buying a car, i am in the process of buying a new car and working out whats best.
In this instance lets say work with VN/VP's preferably 5L
Would you
a) buy a stock car for around a grand and put 4 grand into the engine
b) buy a 5l stock for around $4000 and put $1000 into it
c) buy a car that is getting sold on the forums as a need to sell car for around $5000.
What would you reckon would be best?
Thanks
id look for something newer.
buy a car thats been worked and you risk buying a car thats been flogged to death.
the upside is all the hard work is already done but its buyer beware at all times.
all depends on what you want to do and how much work you are willing to put in i guess. not really a "best" answer in this case...
Remember to budget in rego, insurance, stamp duty etc etc
basically either way if i can work on it slowly it will be okay,
well VR,VS never appealed to me for some reason, i prefer the VN/VP series.
yeh no worries danja will budget that in.
Well buying a 5l calais id be looking at 2-3 if it was in alright condition, for 2000 would it leave much headroom in terms of performance, thats why i thought maybe getting a car that had been worked, and if it had been flogged, i can fix what needs to be done to it.
check out carsales, its just the best option to see what you can get for your buck. i was just browsing it 1 day when i saw the vp calais i now own, saw it and went heel yes, im selling my lexcen and getting that.
But yeah go a vn/ vp calais 5l for around 3-3500k and then get rego etc then start on some mods
what are some mods worth doing for around the 2g mark
Have you considered a vr -vs statesman 5l or supercharged 6 ? I have see some very tidy examples for around this price and they clean up nicely
i have consider it, but im not sure why something about the vr-vs series that doesnt appeal, i do know they are going cheap tho.
mate i picked up my caprice for 2 grand off ebay the owner wasnt to happy bout price but that was her loss lol just make sure you inspect first dont buy from a picture and there description
What state are you looking at?
Post Pictures of your VR/VS here. this my vs supercharged six statemans I got for $3200 look down to the bottom of the page
Post Pictures of your VN/VP here. this is my vp I sold for $2000 again toward the bottom of the page
But if I were you and you looked hard enough you my be able to snare a vp ss or vp clubby
victoria
i see what you mean looks pretty good, id prefer a manual 5lt but i do know alot of calais came with autos so i may have to go a berlina of some sort.
Yeah Get yourself the calais somethin straight with decent paint to start with the with will fell comfy driving round.
Then Do the diff 3.9s or 3.7s lsd
Shift up the box[if u go auto]
And do an exaust mod
That should make it pretty quick to start with and be within your budget.
All GO
If you go a berlina in a VP go for ,the ls (I think that whats it called Anyone?) it has climate control ,Irs etc like a calias if you can find or another good score would be a vp international they look shit hot done up ,but I rarely see them for sale ,but I have seen a couple of them in your price range over the years ,as for a mannual you migth be looking at a conversion,
Have you though about a full mannualised auto ?
vsl67 do you mean running a shift kit for the full mannualised auto, a while ago i thought of it when i was originally buying a car back in 07 but havent thought about it for a while,
what are the benefits just quick off the mark?
and also in regards to that would it be better to find a berlina manual 5lt or go the auto 5ltr with stage 3 shift kit.

dude for 5 grand just take what you can find, you might be able to get yourself a manual 5 litre for that if you look hard egnough, if not a clean vp v6 5spd will be oodles of fun for you. there are so many threads already about how to make your v6 or 5l v8 go fast. so easy nowadays. look around mate, see what you can find!, dont listen to some of these comments about worked cars being flogged, it does not mean squat, i have a worked vs clubsport, and can tell you now has not been flogged!. find something that you like, with the lowest kms you can find and be happy with it!
just a quick one.
1 - For a semi stock vn 5ltr would you recommend a manual or an auto, if auto it would have the stage 2 shiftkit and stall converter etc. (This wont be stroked or blown)
2 - If i had 3000 to spend on a 304 engine, what would you suggest in terms of power, if standard stuff first, or go the cam, shiftkit if auto, gear ratio change or spend the money on an exhaust setup.
With those two what would you be reaching in terms of RWKW compared to stock.
Lastly
3 - If the option comes up to buy a 5ltr on the net either on here or ebay etc with cam, shiftkit, or something that has been worked would you recommend that? as your not sure if its been thrashed or not.
Thanks.
Go for any of the above, stick with the basic mods such as exhaust, ignition, shift kits and ratio changes before you open up the motor, but most importantly be sure on what you want and go for the cleanest car you can get,the cleaner it is the more likely it hasnt been thrashed even its its got high kays
You can pick up gold for $5000 in a VN/VP/VQ V8. I picked up my stato for $3000 with RWC and Rego, full service logs, etc. For $5000 you should be able to find a pearler.
