LEATHER SEAT COVERS HOLDEN COMMODORE VZ VY VX VT VR VS - eBay Seats, Interior, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 18-Jan-09 10:43:36 AEDST)
Am considering getting some for my caprice with hsv logos
yeh speak to rvx219 he had them done to his vx...i saw them in person n thery just look like the real thing...but mine where still better scott![]()
Hi mate i have these. See my VY SS ride link below for pics. I'll be completely honest, if your after quality, go with real leather. These things might look good but in no way compare to the holden leather in my WL Caprice (which is the same as stock holden SS leather). They do not have a leather feel as such. They are actually leatherette, and the guy said about 75% or so leather and 25% other stuff. So if your fussy, get urs retrimmed with the real stuff, or keep checking ebay every so often as near new leather seats sell for around 2k. If your in Melbourne your more than welcome to look at mine.

From what i hear, those ones on Egay are pretty bloody good without being leather. They fit perfect and look great. Haven't heard a bad thing about them yet. Pretty sure they just unstitch your factory ones, slip the new ones over and stitch those up.
I remember with adam's, he installed himself. Would it be better to just get them to do it or what? Was it a hard thing to do?

First, sorry about this sloppy messy write up, i am in a rush to go to dinner but will answer any questions later...
The quality is okay but it doesn't have the leather feel of the genuine VY/VZ leather. I could write a whole essay on this but unless you see it in person you won't fully understand. Different types of leather vary in feel, hardness etc so you cannot expect all leather to feel like commodore leather, but most leather i have seen generally has a better feel than this stuff. The pictures online can be very misleading... yes it looks GREAT but it doesn't feel as good as it looks. The ebay leather seat covers are designed to sit really tight on your seat, and if installed correctly they do. The holden leather on the other hand does not, it can move around. The difference is the holden leather is firmer, so the fact it is a bit lose is fine. The ebay leather stretches a fair bit so when it is lose it looks shit. That might sound a bit confusing, but as i said you need to see to understand. Anyone in melb can come have a look at mine and cross compare it with my caprice's leather so you see what i'm talking about.
They do not unstitch your factory ones. Your factory ones are glued on and have metal rings holding them down. You simply remove them. The new ones are not stitched on either. They are already put together just as your factory ones were when you pulled them off. They are installed by running galvanized wire through the leather at defined lines (i.e. the lines in the seat that hold the leather down) and using cable ties to hold down the galvanized wire.
It's a bitch to install when you havn't done it in the past. The mistake i made was not making it tight enough. At the time it was bloody tight, but after some time i needed to tighten it as it was looking lose. He said they don't stretch but they did a bit, so i've tightened it and it's fine.
This is the way i look at it; My covers cost $600 i think, maybe $700, and was like $400-600 to install. You could install it yourself, but the time it took me and the fact it still isn't perfect, i should have worked the hours at my job and been paid and would have paid it off and had a perfect job. But seeing as its like $1100 installed, i'd say get newish second hand leather off ebay for $2,000 and then sell your old seats to recoup some of the money. You can also find places that will retrim your seats with leather for $2000 or so.
As i said, i could write an essay on every single reason real leather is better. Some reasons are, the ebay leather doesn't really feel like leather, it is noisier than leather (creaks if you move on it), in the heat loosens up as it is not 100% leather, if you place your knee in the middle of the seat for example and lean on the seat it will leave an indent as it loosened the leather up (but will eventually stretch back to position), it really doesn't have a leather feel and unlike most leather it is made to sit really tight, whereas other leathers generally have a loose feel which is nice.
I will try and get photos/video of this and show you what i mean. I will try to do it later tonight. I am particularly fussy with my cars, more so than others, so some of you might be happy with it, i don't know. I am actually planning on putting real leather in once i have done performance mods.

I got quoted $1200 for a pair of front seats in normal leather/suede.
Not that much more expensive, although i like everything perfect!

I've just purchased a complete Calais leather interior, including door trims, suede dash and console sections, from ebay, for $1250. Much better than buying the fake leather covers.
Another point to consider with the fake covers - are they made to accommodate the side air bags if your car is fitted with them? By "accommodate", I mean are they designed to rip to release the bag in a prang in the same way the factory trim is?
You're right, the bag will rip the trim regardless, but it is designed to rip in a specific manner so that the bag deploys in the correct form and at the required speed.
If the trim is too strong, the deployment can be affected to the detriment of the passenger. I'm pretty sure that the trim design has a "rip-point" inbuilt, that is deliberately placed and designed to enable the bag to operate correctly.
I have seen 2 guys do these on ebay and really for the money ,I don't see anything wrong with it
Nothing wrong with them but you get what you pay for. That's how I read 'em. Resale on the vehicle might go up a bit though.
