    Question Leaking Sump Plug Fix?

    Hi all.

    My sump plug now leaks!

The other day when i serviced the VT, I dropped the sump plug into the oil tray.
I fished it out of the old oil and screwed it back into the sump hole.....
I filled the engine up with new oil, then poored the old crap back into the oil bottle.....
When the oil was almost all in the bottle I realised I left the washer for the sump plug in the tray
Anyways... is there a type of washer I can buy to stop it leaking (other than the standard brass one)?

The plug itself isnt stripped but when i screwed it in with no washer it seemed to have stuffed the surface seal.

Just buy a new washer and plug, it wont cost you too much at all from any auto parts store and then you will know that both the washer and plug are in top nick.

I think the damage is on the sump side man.
The sump is alloy and i think the bolt is brass also....

The bolt should be ok... so a cardboard washer should fix the problem?

also probably won't need to take the plug all the way out and drop the oil to put the tape on, just have a new fibre washer next time you service the car that should seal the damaged section.
