Default need help with vectra cooling problem!

my mate has a 97' holden vectra and last week we took it on a road trip. most of the trip was freeway and the car was fine however when the car was stationary the temp starts to rise drastically until you take off again. would any1 have any idea what it might be that is causing the problem??

sounds like the thermo fans not kicking in (assuming it has thermo fans) check relays and fuses i guess.

because the engine temp is dropping as soon as you start moving and getting airflow through the radiator it suggests the actual cooling system is working ok. also check any drivebelts to ensure waterpump is circulating the coolant properly

when your mate stops does the engine thermo fans run for approx 30 seconds after the engine is turned off?

my sisters 97 vectra does it and its a factory feature, does theres do this?
if not then ill be def looking into the thermo first, as immortality said fuse/relay

great thanx for the tips guys. il go and have a look at it and c wat we can find. it cant be the radiator as it was changed like 2 months ago and i 95% sure the thermo fan turns when it needs 2. also weird thing was my mate was driving it 2day, all was good til the engine light came on and afta 30 secs the car turned off. tried starting it but kept stalling. had 2 keep the revs up 2 get it going. no more warning lights or stalls so far but car is still overheating quite easily. cheers

yep my sisters vectra is doing that

    stalling and having probs running
been to holdens to check and no faults appear, been doing it randomly.
looked through a few forums from europe and i couldnt find much info on the prob

we beleive its to do with the AFM, i was playing with the cable a bit and it hasnt had a prob since
