Last night my VE SS was trapped in the NQ floods.
The water came up to mid-door and was stuck there for about 45 minutes. Do I kiss it goodbye?

Damn. Yeah it's insured. Being a weekend and with the roads closed it'll be at least Tuesday till it's assessed.
It's so shiny and pretty and sad sitting in the RACQ compound with all the old and battered bombs. Being a girl I burst into tears. So stressful.
Sorry, missed you question - It wouldn't start last night and this morning I didn't try as a few people told me not to. All I know is this morning the remote locking worked and the alarm was going off randomly.

Ahh no, thats so unfortunate, hope everything goes well insurance wise for you..let us know how the assesment goes.
i dare say if insurance try to fix it, pleade with them to write it off, if they try to fix it generally they put new wiring through, computers, interior trim etc, it might sound all good, but if the water had a lil salt in it, in the future you will start having lil glitches with it,
you can allready see its having errors from the water, ie alarm being randomly set off etc

Better hope you're covered for storm/flood damage.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
Unlucky bout your car lucky its insured though.

its best not to start a car tht has been water logged or water over the air box cuz once it sucks it in it does not compress and something has got to give way.
I'd be surprised if its been submerged for 45 mins and theres no water in the engine where water shouldnt be.
You might be lucky, they may write it off depending on how water logged the car is in general.
Its a tough one and will be an interesting one to follow, I honestly couldnt put a bet on it either way. Please let us know how you go
it'll be written off - no ifs or buts about it.
Ill even put money on it.
The water never went above the indicators because I remember waiting to see the hazard lights go under and they never did. They intend taking it to Cairns for asessment but the road from here to there is still blocked by floodwater. Meanwhile it's just sitting there. I don't know if I should be asking the insurance company to have someone do anything in the meantime?
if the inside has water in it then its a write off.
id be very surprised if no water got inside though.
theres nothing you can do now so just leave it there.
Water started seeping in under the doors. It then came in more when my daughter opened her door to get out. Probably should have gone out the window but bear in my mind these are croc filled waters and we were in a bit of a panic. We pushed it out but when the racq pulled it up on the truck the water in the front footwells tipped into the backseat. Funny tho, the boot is dry.
Especially wen u tried to start it twice, it would have sucked in water.
Only once, just after. Didn't try again. Probably makes no difference now anyway by the sounds of it.
Ohh sorry must have miss read it. Yea lucky ur insured.
i call dib's on the 6LTR jkjk anywayz not good to hear mate depending on what computer's were damaged will depend on if it's written of ...... it will be better if it's written off cuz in a few year's (if it was salt water) it would be fully rusted anyway
Eureka styles!
thats gotta suck mate. u guys up north are swimming everywhere and we are getting burnt down here in victoria.
hey. just curious my son was telling me about this commodore a VY II 04 model for $7000 but has damage to the chassis rails and needs to be fixed to be registered. is it worth it?
Aww crap sorry, I didn't realise it was the same person.. sorry![]()
If the car is salt water damaged they'll write it off without too much thought. Depending on how bad the water got in (if freshwater) there might be some hope. You'd almost be hoping they'll write it off. If then you are keen to dry it out and replace bits yourself then look into buying back the "wreck".
Sorry to hear about your car but i guess it can be replaced so that's the main thing.
