Default Wet & Dry rubbing (paint)

ey guys ive got some imperfections in my paint and they wont come out with just polish, so I was going to wet and dry rub the section. What grit should I use on this? theres crap stuck in the clear coat whoever re-sprayed my bonnet has not done it in a heated booth and "crap" has dryed into the clear. Any advise will be helpfull

try a clay bar first, works wonders,

but if you have to wet rub i would start with 2000, i would not go any lower then 1200....

Wet sanding with 800 grit?!?! Jesus! You'll be lucky if you could buff out 800 grit mark with a rotary buffer. Simple fact is wet sanding is an absolute last resort. Especially if you've never done it before. Start with a clay bar and don't expect to fix paint imperfections if you polish by hand with an over the counter polish. Even if you wet sand with 1200 grit paper, you're still going to need to machine polish to remove the marks.

i recon even 1800 is still too corse [rough]. i use 2000 when i do blends at work. then use cutters on the buffer. works a charm.

I used 320 on the stripes we painted on our race car lol. No need for it to look too good tho coz it's prolly gonna get scratched up. Mainly done it tho as we've never painted, rubbed back and polished b4. It's good to practice on it lol. Still turned out shiny tho, bought some 1200 to go over it with, then gotta buy a buff pad attachment for my buff, then go over it again.

Here's some pics......rubbed through on a few spots, coz it already has some dents in it haha.

STOP! i didnt even read the rest of this thread do not follow what has been said by this goose.
however i did see some one mentioned 2000 grit. this is the only option after a claybar. if its deeper than clear coat than your waisting your time. ask the opinion from someone who can visualy inspect what your worried about, u wont get better advise than from a pro............just a thought
