We have a holden 383 stroker in our 1990 toyota landcruiser. Running sweat except for a mysterious transmission leak. Cant seemed to find were the leak is coming from no obvious puddles of fluid anywhere but it seems to be using a full load of tranny fluid within 1-2 months and have to refill it again. Depending on what the car has towed depends on how frequent the top up. If the car has towed it will require more fluid within a week or so. Its not leaking back into the radiator its not milky its also not running back into the transfer case and has bustard a front or rear main seal. Its also not blowing any smoke. The only connection that seems to be a little strange is the radiator is getting hot when towing or on extreme hot days even when not towing. Its a 3 core radiator. We have ordered twin thermo fans, with 3200 cfm, to fit to the radiator, havent arrived so not sure if it will make a difference to cooling the car. The car has been set up for towing, with duel fuel. Very frustrated any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
Are you sure it's not going into the transfer case? Have you undone the bung and checked it? Very common for the Landcruisers to pump fluid from the gearbox/transmission into the transfer case.
Yep all been checked. It has a turbo 700 holden auto tranny in it
Cheers for reply
its a puzzle.how about the cooling lines connections
Have you checked the vacuum hose from the trans to the inlet manifold to see if there is any fluid in it. There could be a small hole in the vacuum modulator on the trans so the engine sucks the trans fluid out and burns it in the engine when the engine is under load so it is pulling a lot of vacuum.
is the overflow hose conected to it
