Default Oil Filters - Genuine or Aftermarket?

Hey everyone, just got a new 5 speed vs, and i'm wondering which oil filters are better to use, the genuine holden ones or the aftermarket ryco you get from supercheap? Also, the same with fuel filter, i have a kn panel air filter.
    Thanks heaps.

I use Ryco oil filters and K&N air filters. Never had a problem with either. You will find the "Genuine" ones from Holden, are made by Ryco or a very similar company, and are exactly the same in quality, the only difference being Holden charge you more for them.

Don't bother with Holden unless you want to keep your warranty on your car in check, or you need like rocker cover gaskets or hard to find genuine gear.

But yes, Ryco oil filters are fine.

I use AC Delco on everything, apparently they are OEM for holdens filters but dont take that for gospel.
Its personel choice really, just dont use really cheap ones. Stick with quality, Ryco, AC Delco etc are all ok.

Assuming your VS is a V6, AC Delco are $5.50 each, and I wouldnt imagine Ryco to be much different? Alot cheaper then nearly 10bux each, plus postage, could get them from Holden cheaper.

I have used Ryco for every service, except my most recent one when i tried another one that you can get from Auto One. In a black package, IMO works better than Ryco!

Well, firstly you can see in the design of the filters.

Secondly, you can get test machines that can measure the rate at which oil can flow through the filters. Not sure if there is one to test to get rid of impurities though.

Thirdly, using the same oil type with the new filter the engine runs smoother. That could be due to the thinner oil used though and the Ryco filters being a bit slower at getting the oil through.

That dosnt make sense. Did you use the same oil or change it for a thinner one?

lol ive used (and still am) the cheapo ones from supercheap....like 3-5 bucks one...never ever had a problem with them, but in me VS i used either ryco etc,,,,but at the end of the day each filter has to go through tests that there required to do to pass specifications...so in other wordsunless u get a filter with magnets etc in them there all pretty much the same

Yeah, pretty much got told the same thing as what jas98 said, they must pass the same tests or exceed the specs of the genuine filters,

I've been using some cheap (I think) jap filters, get them for like $3 trade, never had a problem with them, if you do them up tight - no leaks.. but if you take it off for some reason then put it back on, chances are it'l leak - probly the same with a genuine one too?? a one time fit - then throw away, type deal..
