    Default Extractors or Suspension?

I have a VR 5L Commodore. A few months ago I got a 3 inch Lukey Cat Back system put on.

Now I took my car to Pedders yesterday for the $14, 28 point check and they came back with a vast array of things that need doing (in their eyes of course - I have heard the stories).

Now I have to make a decision, look over performance.

I have enough money for 1.

Do I put extractors on to finish the exhaust (quoted $1100 for Lukey extractors at Carline) or do I lower my car and get the other parts replaced at Pedders for $1573.

Things that need replacing on my suspension apparently:

Strut bracing x 2. Bearing Plate x 2, Urethane Radius Rod Bush, Comfort gas shocks x 2 for front, Urethane Sawybar link bush, Trailing Arm assembly x 2, Pedders rubber bush x 2, Urethane Panhard Rod Bush. Labour for the fixing is $485.00.

If I want to lower it as well I have been quoted for the Sports Ryder Coil Springs for $322 and another $132 for labour on top of all that. Wheel alignment is $77.

Now I really want to finish the exhaust to make it sound perfect and better the performance but I dont want the suspension to shit itself so do I lower it in the process to get the look perfect?

    Which would you choose?

i would choose to lower it because everyone will notice it straight away just make sure you get it done professionally and not chopped which looks like what your going to do.

The only reason i haven't put extractors on my ride id that if you have a crash and you have to make a claim on insurance and they see you had them on the car you loose your insurance.

this could be very bad if you write it off and get nothing. Because you sign a declaration saying what parts you have on the car and extractors screw you

anyways that's my 2 cents on the subject hope you make the right choice mate.

Go with peddars, you'll notice the difference both in looks and feel.
As you already have a good cat back system adding extractors won't change the feel a lot until you get high in the rev range but at low revs and around the streets you will notice a tiny loss of torque which usually happens when fitting extractors.

    Pedders??? *vomit*

Thats my opinion anyway... king springs with monroe shocks FTW!

no chopping springs... bad... don't do it... don't get me started... i've had a few infractions for my "spirited" opinion of people sho chop springs...

I wouldnt chop the springs, I would get it lowered professionally if I did it. I guess I would go and look for a quote elsewhere to see if I can get it done cheaper.

Question about the extractors, how much of a different sound will it give my car given that it is the motor top end and bottom end have been rebuilt only 13000ks ago and a sports cam and CAI has been installed? Will I get much gain from installing extractors?

With lowering is it better to have the height at the front and back the same height or the back a little higher? I am looking at the car sitting just on the top of my 17 inch wheels.

i read over your post twice, and couldnt see 'anal lube' anywhere.

i paid $500 for my pacemaker extractors and fitted them myself. cant be $600 bucks worth of labour there. $300-$400 max for labour. shop else where.

if you want to go lower then just buy a set of super low king springs and get them fitted. i wouldnt worry too much about what peddars say on those $14 check up. just a quick buck for them in my eyes. unless you get defected and the roadyworthy place picks up on them then you fix it.

Just got a quote from a Suspension place to lower it and they quoted me to go 50mm lower using King Springs and new shocks (they said they normally use the german brand Boag??? dont know how good they are) but not replacing any of the things that Pedders said they would charge around $950.

what area are you from mate? you can keep an eye out on the forsale section and a set of springs might turn up cheap. that or you go to repco pay 200-300 for set. do the back springs yourself (they are easy) and give a mechanic $100 to do the front. (not incl $77 for alignment which needs to be done)

Front end alignment shouldn't set anyone back more than $50. You can get it done well for as little as $40 at the right places.

$132 bucks extra to fit the new springs?Wont they already have the springs out when they do the other work?Should cost zip if the old springs are already out.

I was thinking the same thing. If they'er changing the front strut inserts then there's no reason why it should cost anything to put different springs on
