hey everyone,
just wondering how much for a set of spark plug leads are worth for a gen3,
heard there in the $800 mark, this true?
any tricks to get them off?
i went to replace the spark plugs and the center of the first spark plug lead pulled outwas ok last time, but this time no good.
just want a price incase the rest or others do the same.
any help greatly appreciated.
last ichecked was bout $160 i think, or holden will charge bout 30 each
oh ok, heaps better than i was told by a holden tech, thats ok then.
alot better than i thought, he might have thought i ment coils not leads then.
only buy genuine, the red leads are better.
are the red leads of the ls2?
its got factory black spark plug leads, with the big metal tubing over the ends.
Brad @ Enhanced told me to remove the metal tubing when i changed my plugs as they cause problems (or something, just better without them). Just be careful as the leads can break internally and you can't tell by looking at it, or if your in a rush like i was, rip the end of the lead completely
SIG-O54... why are the red leads better? I can't imagine changing from the black to red ones would be worth it for $160.

have a look and you can see.
got my spark plug lead plus a spare incase, $28 plus gst each, for genuine, there 7mm and red ac delco not the black ones from factory, so i have one(possibly two) red and 7 black leads is there much difference between 7mm and 8mm leads?
but they don't sell as a set only seperate, said they never realy sell them, i think i worked out there $240-$250 for the set from holden, or $109 for a set of top gun 8mm leads from repco, they any good?
do you need to swap the metal tubing over or doesn't matter.
yeh adamc11 i left the tube of the new one, alot easier to get off, i had simmilar ones on my vr v6 and when a lead split i bought a whole new set, i think they were top gun 8mm, but i left the metal tubing of that as it made it easier to get of, but they didn't have the spring inside like the gen3 ones.
to change from black to red is $240-$250, but the red ones are what holden gave me not black ones, packaged as ac delco, with gm part numbers.
Has anyone ever had a "performance lead" which was definitely better than a stock and/or budget one?
In my mind, leads are one of those things that either work, or don't. They are essentially a glorified high-voltage wire, which isn't exactly high-tech (though Top Gun would have you think otherwise).
If it carries the current to make the spark, doesn't emit buckets of EMF to screw with any other electrics, is there any more to it? I tend to think not. All half-decent leads should tick these boxes.
Back in the day when I was trying all the bolt on stuff, including leads and "performance" spark plugs and coils, I wasted tons on money on stuff I'm now quite sure was not at all worth it - certainly not in a stock or lightly modded car.
Anyone got a different opinion, and something to back it up?
the best lead's were the old solid copper one's, they take plenty of abuse when changing plugs.
nothing goes wrong with them!! their is a small minor problem is you cant hear your radio.
Research has shown that men usually sleep on the right side of the bed.
Even in our sleep we happen to be right.

yeh so the factory 7mm leads are good for a standard car, their there from factory so they must be good.
i replaced the spark plugs and all ok none of the others broke, so i have a spare one, took the metal tubes off to make it easier to get them of next time.
and my old plugs were good, burning very nicely, no signs of running rich at all, nice clean burn on the end of the plugs![]()
