Default What's the rwkw of stock VN and VT V8's?

    Hi All,

I've been hunting around on the net and I cannot find anywhere where it states the rwkw of either the VN or VT executive stock V8.

I can find the power that the engine puts out i.e. 165kW for the VN and 179kW for the VT, so I'm guessing they'll be around 125rwkw for the VN and 135rwkw for the VT.

Also, what power would you expect after adding sports exhaust, hi-flow cat, extractors, rougher cam shaft, etc to either of these models?

I'm also curious whether there is much of a advantage in the way of power over buying a V8 VT over a V8 VN after adding the modifications stated above or whether they'll be roughly the same power wise?

Also, is there any known inherent problems with either engine?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking of buying one of these two models. I have only dealt with 6's before and don't know much about the V8 versions.

There are a fair few questions here but I know somebody will know the answers.

    Thanks in advance.

The v8 in the VN will be the aussie 5.0litre v8, whereas the v8 in the VT can be either the aussie v8 or the 5.7litre chev gen3 ls1. The ls1 puts out more power, i.e. in later model VT's, like 1999/2000, an SS VT has about 200-220kw. These earlier LS1's tand some VX's had some factory issues with them, i.e. piston slap. Some were repaired under warranty. The LS1 is also a very noisey/rattly motor but makes more power than the 5.0litre. The 5.0 litre is a tough motor and I don't recall them having an major known issues but i think it will cost you less to get good power out of the ls1 than the 5.0l v8. I'd go for the vt with the LS1 get a good inspection of the motor. In terms of power output at the wheels on a vt with an ls1 with exhaust, headers, good intake, small cam and tune you can get anywhere from 250-270rwkw. if you take out the cam, you;d get about 215-225rwkw.

a 5l vn will be faster than a 5l vt though because its lighter.

as for rwkw, its irrelevent because it will be different to whatever you buy, many things will effect the rwkw over time on the car, servicing wear etc etc.

mate vt clubby makes 173rwkw thats pretty much stock besides full exhaust and tune though it does have good gearbox and kaaz diff with 3.7's so it'd still about as fast as a vn with similar mods and less power and costs a whole lot more
