Insurance is a pain in the ass! I called up Racq yesterday to add my sound system to the insurance. To my surprise, the chick i was talking to okayed it all and said it would be an extra $8 or so for the 2 remaining months b4 my renewal. b4 i got hung up i double checked with her what i was covered for. i was given the impression when i first signed up for racq comprehensive insurance that i was covered for the market value of the car itself + the cost of listed modifications. well now she tells me yes but only modifications up to about 10% the value of the car. i was pissed! i asked her if it was possible to change it to an agreed value. she said she'd contact her supervisor and give me a call today. today i get a voice mail telling me to give them a call, so i did and then i get told i have 5 days to find a new insurer! absolute bastards! so guys i need some help with where to go. i want to get it covered for about $10,000. is this achievable? thanks fellas
Id say just cars is probli the best ive dealt with, only ones that would insure my WH for less than 4grand anyway![]()
Covered for $10K? A VS Exec? You must have one hell of a sound system. Good luck with your search, if you manage to find someone who will cover it for what you want I think you'll be extremely lucky.
What sort of sound system are you talking about. Just a new head unit or amp, speakers, sub?
Here's a tip for those that add a basic aftermarket head unit to their unsurance. A stock standard cassette head unit in the VS has a value of about $350. My first VS got stolen about 7 years ago. Was found the next day with the stereo and a few other things missing. I had put a Pioneer CD player in it valued a about $250 but didn't list it on my policy. Insurance said replacing the original was about $350 so I could have anything installed up to that value.
Back on the topic though. You won't get agreed value of the car at $10,000. I been shopping around for new insurance in my VS Calais with the super 6. A year ago the highest agreed value I could find was $12,000. Now last week the best I could find was $11,000. Your best option would be to get an agreed value of about $7000 but then add the cost of replacing the audio gear to your policy. Not all Insurers do this but some will allow it.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
I'm 20, the wheels and tyres cost me $1350, the exhaust $1190, lowering with king spring lows and munro gt shocks all round was $1500, then full polk audio sound system and pioneer head unit and wiring was $3250. then a few other little bits and pieces. bought the car for 5400. that all adds up to... 13,000... so yeh i want to get it covered for as close to $10k as possible. Ive just got an online quote back from just car. they said they'll cover it for $8800. So i've applied for that but then it told me it has to be looked at again. I got a quote for $5600 over the phone from shannons, then when i asked him about having someone look at it cus it looks in mint condition he said from what i said he was happy to give me $7000. so thats the progress so far. if this one from just car comes thru i'll be happy with that. that was with a premium of about $1250 for the year. thanks for all the input guys
ahhh i not long ago went through the same thing i added extras on top on the VT i was with RAC also then i got told i had a week 2 find a new insurer coz i had about $5000 worth of stuff 2 add. Funny enough they wouldnt even touch the VP either.
rang just cars 4 the VT got agreed value of $8500 and an excess of $1050 n was $937 4 12months
And 4 the VP agreed value of $7000 with same excess but was $960 4 12months
havent tried shannons might do that

well the result is... insured with just car for $7000 (not including stereo), on rating 2, premium of only $1018. Also bought an alarm. the python 902.
how did shannons even give you a quote being under 25?
I'm in the situation of finding a new insurer, i hate insurance, dispise it to death but i suppose you ahve to have it. I was with just cars but cant justify the $3000 excess that comes along with it. Cheapest and best i've found is aami, $1400 with $500 excess, no claim bonus and nil excess of front window.
but only an agreed value of $27000, down from $34500 last year with just cars!!...
anyway i can talk that value up with aami?
i am with racv and pay $1,500 a year for insurance on my vy ss, i just turned 25 about a month ago so rang up last week to find out how much it would be now and they quoted me $2,180 to insure it now i'm 25 i said "wot but i'm paying nearly $700 less than that now with you guys" the lady said "thats what the quote is our computer generates, best to stick with what you already have".
and my insurance is rate in 1 for life too so i thought it would be better, obviously i was wrong, insurance is a joke.
yeah i'd hate to see your excess with just cars.
Chev badges are an instant fail
This is what i've gotten so far
