it states in the service book 100k to change belt, however i read i think in the paper an expert say it also goes on years regardless of kays, and 5 years is the general rule, what are your thoughts, the car in question has 86k on it.
also anyone done one of these, ive changed about 20 on a camira years ago, these motors look pretty much the same. camiras used the water pump to tension the belt, for which u needed a special tool, what method tensions a barina any special tools required, any other cautions worth mentioning, just line up crank and cam notches, yeah. thoughts appreciated![]()
what model engine is it (c20sel, x18 that kind of thing)? if i'm guessing right its pretty much the same as the camira and say its veru similar to changing that. Personally i think 86,00 k's is stuff all most are usually 100,000-150,000 i got 280,000 out of one mazda timing belt.
Its seems like you know what to do i dont know if there's a special tool required for the tensioner.

Pub24/7, thats insane k's off a belt.
Me having owned a gti for a few years now, have always been anal bout changing belt on time, with a kiss motor the destruction a snapped belt can cause aint nice on the back pocket.
If your unsure, i say change it.

If the service handbook says change at 100k, it sounds like you have an SB model Barina - is that correct? I hve changed belts on Camiras many times too, and the SB had a similar engine though smaller in capacity. The belt changing set up should be the same, with the stupid water pump tensioning set up, which is fine as long as the pump hasn't seized into the block like they all do in time.
If that is your model, it would be wise to change the belt as it is wll over 5 years old and the belt will have stretched quite a bit. The time interval should always be adhered to, even if the distance specified hasn't been travelled, as the belts obviously deteriorate with time as well as use and they're not expensive.
Yeah well the mazda v6 belt was about half the original width and slipped off the cam gear lucky there was no damage done. I hate timing belts especially on east-west fwd vehicle what a PITA.
