Hey all, this is my very first post!
I’m almost 18 and have been on my P’s for 3-4 months, anyway I am trying to make a decision on a car...The situation here is:
I have a choice of either a 1986 VL berlina completely stock with only 40,000km’s in nice condition for 3-4 grand depending on how far I can negotiate. Yes it was owned by a grandma. I went to test drive it last weekend and was a nice ride...bit of paint fading and rust on the roof but nothing out of the ordinary for a car of this age...
My other option is wait till October because my mum’s Astra’s lease expires and my dad will just buy it out and re lease something else...the Astra only has 25,000km’s and is 5 years old in October hence the lease expiration.
Anyway, my dad said if I wait till October (8 months away...sigh) he will give me the car to sell for myself...which will hopefully pull in 11-13 grand, I considered this as an awesome proposition as I will put my money towards something 5-6 years old with more guts than an 86’ VL.
However, I do have a passion for VL’s and one with low K’s like this one is hard to come by as of 2009. So yeah what do you guys reckon I should do...either get a nice and tidy VL or wait until October and get a later model commodore with a body kit, spoiler etc.
If I can get a ballpoint quote on how much it is to sand the rust back and fill in some ‘rust holes’ it would be great...btw, today I called a panel beater and asked how much a respray is, and it really sounded out of proportion and made me stop and reconsider things. Even if I do end up getting this VL I don’t think I’ll get it resprayed which is a shame (even though blue/green isn’t that bad).
So basically...my ask to the justcommodores community is, get this VL for 3-4 grand or wait 8 months and get myself a newer commodore worth around 10 grand.
All advice, thoughts and suggestions will be considered and helpful or just tell me what you reckon!!
Thanks, Steve
depends really on your love for the model.....
do you really love the vl series or do you rather just getting a newer car because its newer?
paint and rusty is only cosmetic, it can be fixed
with 40,000km on the clock this vl would be snapped up by a vl lover, as for that price its a bargen
everyone will have there opinions on each model, some reckon vns are best and vls are pos
where other people only see vts
personally the vl is a good buy but also if you wait you would be in the marked for a nice vs caprice which is all the luxo you would want
