i know exactly what it is. whats your point? i dont see the point in comprehensive insurance on a early model p plater v6 unless its needed for finance. one year of insurance would cost more than the cars worth, and even if he did crash it, parts can be sourced a lot cheaper than the insurance + excess is worth anyway. third party insurance + fire/theft would suit him better so yeah, your smartass response is unnecessary

Not at all. I feel your comment was a smart arse comment saying its 'only' a VS, not worth anything!

Full comp makes sense for anyone wanting to have full coverage. Finance or not, full comp is always the best option! Sure, after a year he could buy another car if he only had 3rd party for that year, but thats not the way to think about it! Keep in mind cars are worth different amounts in different places

Unfotunatly thats what it costs. I went 3 years paying those figures and really i still do being under 25 i just have max no claim now. All you can do is suck it ftm and get new quotes each year. I've changed through 3 different insurers so far as each year you ring around and prices have all changed. My only advice is dont simply re-insure each year ring around for new quotes each time. Beware Justcars has rediculous excesses. like up over $1000 for P platers.

I paid ~$1200/year through AAMI on my VS Berlina, up in QLD. I also opted for a higher excess to lower the premium though.

I'm with stocky on this. On my p's i only ever had third party insurance, just to make sure the other car was covered in case of accident. Imo it's just not worth the prices you've posted up but i must say, they seem extremely high.

i agree with stocky, i only use third party plus fire theft, and even that costs alot cosidering the price of the car. 3 years of insurance and its cost more than what ive paid for the car

Justification depends on what you need it for. For example, if the car is written off and you have no other way to get to work, what would you do if you didn't get a payout and didn't have enough for a replacement car? My car's worth bugger all, but it's comprehensively insured because I need it to get to work. It's a necessary expense for me.

Yep, +1 for Stocky. No matter what a VS is worth to you, it's only worth about $5000 tops these days and paying half of that per year in insurance, plus excess, makes no sense.

You can insure 3rd Party Property only for a fraction of the price of comprehensive, and build up a no-claim discount in the process, so that by the time you really need to get comprehensive insurance, you at least have a head start on the discount.

hmmm ok, well there are some people I know who pay like $600 for full comp a year, but thats because the policy is in their parents name and they are a secondary driver...although my mate drives his car 100% of the time, and yet it is still in his dad's name...maybe they are ripping the insurers off...

I don't get it, insurers say for the premium to stay at $600 i would only be allowed to drive my car 10% of the time, the rest of the time my parents would have to drive it otherwise i'd be a level 6 first driver of it..bla bla bla bla...

Just cars have $395 third party fire and theft with a $700 excess...probably the way to go

full comp would be a much better option since I have to get to uni, and to work, and public transport takes 4 times as long...not to mention I get out quite a bit so i need my baby...

Step 1: Get an ABN (Australian Business Number) online takes about 20 minutes

Step 2: Call an insurance broker, insure the car under your ABN and AGE premiums will not apply.

I pay $445 for a VT commodore insured for $10,000 and im 19. Thats full comp.

If you get an ABN and insure your car through that ABN and dont make any money through the ABN then you cant claim it as a tax deduction. All you would have to say is I have the abn and im hoping to do some work using that abn and this car will be used to get $ from my work.

I have an ABN however im a sub contractor so there is no problems for me but the gov cant stop you from having an ABN and not making any money through it.

That's your opinion. Just because some of us disagree doesn't make you right and us wrong.

And for what it's worth, if you insure 3rd Party PD0 with NRMA in NSW at least, you also get up to $3,000 coverage for your own vehicle if you claim and are not the offending driver.

Its not an opinion. Full comprehensive is the best type of insurance! Anyone who disagrees is a moron!

Whilst in some situations you could get away with 3rd party, thats assuming you don't need to call on that insurance! Have a crash, and your ****ed, paying a huge excess, and having no car! Full comp - pay huge excess, your car is full covered!

Depending on the type of job you do, you might have problems going this way. If you are a tradey, where you need to have a car for your work, I can see it working for you. If you work in an office, it might not be so simple.

Yes true. Which is why i would suggest that the OP cut a neighbours lawn and receives $20 through his ABN. He will have to pay tax provided he has earnt over the $6000 threshhold etc etc. He can say that his car was used to transport goods (safety equipment, petrol, etc) to and from the job site and thus using his car for business reasons.

Make sure you dont call AAMI or NRMA or any other big private company directly and ask about business insurance as they will rape you. I was quoted $3300 from AAMI. I called a private insurance broker and paid the $485. Note: The car is not insured in your name as such, rather insured under the name of your ABN.

Yeh so after all that stuff i just said about getting and ABN etc etc, its 100% easier to just insure it in your old mans name with you on there as a driver. lol.
