Gday fellas, im looking at buying another car and i have 10k to spend. Been doing alot of searching and have found a couple vx gen3's in my price range. 1 is berlina 2001 model and has done 150,000ks auto standard exept for 18"rims.Looks to be in good knick. Im after a v8 so im wondering if its better to get a older v8 like a vt or vs for the same price. Like they say you get what you pay for.
Cheers
It's worth thinking that Commodores have improved with each successive model, particularly in relation to safety. If your brass can cover it, try for a VX Series 2 at the earliest, as that was the model where the rear end suspension squat was finally fixed and rear tyre wear was improved. Later models have more air-bags, you might jag ABS, and the early model glitches are usually sorted out.
10k? i doubt youll get a vx ls1 for that. a vt maybe. even with that price, dont forget to add on stamp duty, insurance, rego etc

vt ss. Good looking car that should fall in that range.

Externally, a small Series 2 badge is fitted on the right hand side of the boot, next to the taillight. Its a pity the photo of the cars rear was taken from the wrong side, you can't see if the badge is there, but as it's a 2001 model, it will be a Series 1.
Not a bad looking unit, though.
yeh things that look good at a good price almost always have flaws somewhere..:/ main concerns are the tranny and oil consumption
Do your homework before you start posting info that is only half correct.
yes, series 1 was in 2001 but so was series 2.
so this car could be a series 2 for all you know.
BTW, its not stolen, damaged or encumbered either if your interested.
and to answer your original question: the later the model, the better you will get for your money.
Kms arent too bad for this either so go check it out if your interested.
vs clubby you cant wrong with a VS Clubsport. Looks awesome and goes hard enough...

BTW whats the common things to check with gen3's and vx"s....lol im taking a huge step up from my vn calais..

The VX Series 2 has the Twilight Sentinel, whereas the Series 1 Berlina didn't! Only VX Series 1 to have it was the Calais.
Also, the series 2 saw these revisions from the series 1:
Due to the placement of the front badge, i'd say it's a Series 2• Berlina and Calais Models are fitted with modified grille with new paint or chrome treatment and new badges repositioned above the decor panel.
• Anthracite trim to replace pewter.
• Low pile velour bolster fabric for seats.
• New steering column switches.
Not true, to Quote the Holden Manual again:
Unless it's modified there were no other parts changed.1.GENERAL INFORMATION

It must be W.A then
Setting aside ridiculus km examples
VT SS LS1's can be had for under 10k now anywhere anytime. VX SS might be a stretch but I don't doubt a few would be around for that price. The Statesmans can be had quite a bit cheaper than the SS if you don't mind the barge factor. Even saw a manual LS1 executive for 8k a couple weeks ago
bid up to $7500 on it and then let him negotiate a final price for it should get it lower than the $9800 buy it now price
