    Question Hq 5.0 firing problem

hey, ive got a problem with my hq 5.0.
ive resently changed motors in hy hq and now it wont run..
this motor came out of running car and now its in mine its not firing right..
ive changed leads, plugs, coil, dissy cap, done the points and condenser and cap, checked the timming and its still running on 4..
    what could it possibly be?
could it be the dissy isnt working?
    any ideas would be great...
    thanks
    tom

Did you replace the leads in the right order?

+1 for Dayvo's suggestion. Incorrectly installed leads would be my first port of call. Two things to consider here. Correct firing order when installing the leads into the distributor cap and correct direction of rotation.

yea i done the lead rotation by the book..
    correct if wrong..
    1 2 7 8 4 5 6 3
all done clockwise from number 1 on the dissy..
and yes the dissy was in the motor when changed over, but has been tacken out and put back in to check it was in the right place..
another question, i wasent sure but i noticed the dissy condenser (capacitor)low tension lead was on the negitive on the coil?
    is that right?
    thanks for the help guys..

    Q. how do you know its only firing on four cylinders.
It might be the injectors possibly. The dissy isnt in a tooth out possibly.

hey, ive had a look at the firing order and my number 1 is were ur number 4 is but when i did it i checked cyl 1 was up when i did it.
i checked to see it was running on 4 by running water over the cyls to see which 1's were hot..
    only 4 were..
i rekon it could be the dissy..
im gonna get another mechanic down here to get another opinion, if all else fails idz just get another dissy..
    thanks for the help guys!!!
    slowly narrowing it down!!

You have set it up to fire on the exhaust stroke. Swap the leads around to the same way as that diagram and it should be fine.
